New Octavia ....when? How Much?

Wonder how it may or may not impact on the automobile industry. Looking at the overall picture, families may decide not to buy that second car? I'm sure there will be a reluctance to spend and a tendency to save more.

probably - I know when the fuel price jumps 20c the commute is a bit more fluid for a month or two as people car pool or public transport becomes a cheaper option.

Just looking at my approximate vehicle spend:
rego & third party insurance - $1200pa
Comprehensive Insurance - $1000pa
Tolls - $2200pa (but I get $2k refunded)
maintenance & tyres - $1500pa
Fuel - $1700pa
Depreciation - $4000pa

At least with fuel I get something besides a bit of paper valid for 12 months

I tried my luck and emailed Skoda AU early this month enquiring about the MY15 changes advertised on the Skoda UK website. I'm surprised I got a response, see below:

I apologise for the delay in our response, at this stage we do not have information as to when and if the ŠKODA Octavia RS MY15 variant will be available with flat bottom steering wheel, electrically adjustable front seat & electrical adjustable heated & foldable door mirrors with auto dimming.

ŠKODA Australia would not able to provide any pricing for a variant that we do not have any information on at this time.

We will be getting the flat wheel or whatnot, thats for all MY15 RS models round the world. Changes to spec are unlikely since the tech pack was always made with MY15 in mind anyway.

Personally it'd be nice to get either an unconfirmed or confirmed build week assigned for tech pack orders.

I find fuel pricing irrelevant - just one of the non-negotiable costs of running a car. Depreciation is far greater.

In 2013 it cost me $1725 to drive 17,869kms.

Brad, that seems incredibly cheap fuel costs for nearly 18000kms. What sort of average fuel consumption are you getting? I've only put about 7000kms on our Superb 118 and I drive like I have an egg between my shoe and the go pedal yet my fuel costs are at least 50% per kilometer greater than yours. Fuelly tells me I'm averaging 8.6 l/100kms, about 90% suburban driving.

I can still cancel my purchase when it gets delivered to Australia if by September there is official word on the updated more powerful car! Physically it'll look the same... Maybe external carbon fibre (look) with sportier seats and obviously more powerful engine...

Some after market modifications would surely sort it out. Some cosmetic stuff could be a straight swap over if desired.

Wow, this could coincide nicely with my return to Australia in 2015!

With all of the extra power, it would be interesting to see how it drives. I found on my standard RS that I could get the wheels to let go pretty easily, with more power it could be a truly terrifying drive. That's why AWD would be a better option - I get to drive my brother-in-law's R32 here in Switzerland and the AWD means you can keep throwing more power at it but it never feels like its going to let go.

just run 98ron. Treat 95ron as "for emergencies only".

100ron in the eastern states is 98 with 10% ethanol. The engine is a bit perkier with it but it confuses the ECU and drinks fuel like a sailor on shore leave.

I just drove back from Hervey Bay yesterday, 1300km in 15 hrs. Never again. Filled up with 100 (with 10%) at Hervey Bay, and again just before Yamba, first time I ve seen it. According to the trip computer , I averaged 6.6l/100km. Unbelievable mileage I thought.
