Yes you could do some aftermarket mods to get to the same place but then if you can buy the car already done with a warranty is clearly a bonus.

And likely if it was going to output 206kW it would be K04 turbo fitted as per the Golf R/S3 set-up.... which would give some serious tuning potential

Yes that's why an AWD would even be nice in the new RS.... or at least a tricky front diff. No point in having all that extra power if all you do is spin the wheels.

No doubt but if current waits times are any indication, I'll take a standard RS now then wait for the hy-po version to be released, provided it even comes to Aus.

not that unbelievable. I did highway driving for 700km the other weekend and averaged 6.4l/100km.

        • I can't see how that limited edition RS in FWD would be fun to drive at all. With that much power it needs AWD.

          • If it has the Golf PP's LSD then it should be quite fun. Not sure it'd make it over here though...

            • We're talking the same engine output as the Golf R here which is a step above the Golf.

Yes but this faster RS is meant to be FWD only, and the SEAT Leon Cupra 280 has the same engine as the Golf R but only FWD too. They chucked in the GTI PP's LSD in that to make it useable. So much so it got the record for fastest FWD car at the nurburgring.

Mine would get <6 for a trip like that. About 6.5 with 100ronE10.

This is great justification for adding a footer with your car details in it to give readers some reference...

i'm sitting at 220kW without a K04 turbo fitted. full exhaust + tune only to get there.

but yes.....its most likely fitted with a K04 from a warranty perspective.
that much power as "standard" from the factory is peace-of-mind.

                      • It's odd that they use the R engine with the PP LSD instead of just a small in power like the PP in the Seat.

Not that I am complaining. I think the Octavia RS with the R engine and the PP LSD would be a great combination. I think the AWD while a more stable platform does sap a lot of power from the engine. I was really amazed at how much faster the 163kW Octavia felt vs the 155TSI Tiguan.

Tig does have a weight and aero penalty over the Octavia which will slow it down. Plus you'll lose 10-15% in the AWD... but you make that up in traction off the line.

                          • I suspect the AWD plays a bigger role - I remember having the same experience comparing the Scirocco R and the Golf R.

I'd agree with that having driven the 118TSI Octavia versus 112TSI Yeti (4WD) - the Yeti is a second slower to 100 km/h than my Octavia wagon, but again there are the factors of weight (82 watts/kg Octavia vs 71 watts/kg Yeti) and aerodynamics. The Yeti just felt sluggish.

Most people know what I drive & if you are really keen you can do some detective work on my previous posts. It's not a diesel if that's any help.

My point was more that the engines like the extra octane but the reduced calorific value & higher oxygen content in ethanol plays mindgames with the o2 sensor & increases fuel usage.

I have sigs turned off as they are so annoying.
