Happy to tell people the price by PM, but people stating 5-8% discount off RRP are bang on the money. I got just over 6% discount.....

So whatever you do, have that as a goal to aim for. I'm pretty confident I could have squeezed harder, but the salesman was actually very good, it reached the goal of the price I was happy to pay so I'm happy not to screw them for every last cent. I like to reward good behaviour by salesman....if they were a C*NT then i'd screw them hard.....but more than likely I would just refuse to buy off them. I like good service and am happy with the price so we both win

We managed a price significantly cheaper from Trivetts's than the first dealer we went to. After hearing what others have paid we most probably could have done a bit better but the deposits paid so what will be will be.
I noticed that an alarm is included in the Tech Pack that according to the first dealer was an optional accessory.
Shame about the reversing camera. I would have liked one and I'm sure there must be a way of installing an aftermarket camera.
I think a trip to APR might be on the cards as well

Sorry no, I ordered an ambition plus wagon - would have loved an RS (used to own a 2010 one that was chipped) but just needed a cheap reliable car for the family that was around $30K (that was really the upper limit) was also looking at a hyundai i30 diesel wagon (around $27K) but the skoda is bigger, better engine, better built, far more bling options/interior, looks better etc etc. For $3-4K it was a no brainer as there are essentially no manual diesel wagons in oz......and I refuse to buy an auto. So figured if I have to wait 3-4 months for a car, then bloody hel its going to be the one I want, rather than the most "sensible" option.

I think with manual, that removes any reliability issues that may arise (aside from oil consumption, but havent heard any issues with the 90tsi/103tsi). Cheaper servicing too, and if the gearbox is like my last RS, it will be a peach.

EDIT: when i say the one I want - its actually the missus car! I wont own a car for a while yet, commute everywhere on my motorbike.
it suits her as euro cars (even with skoda badge) are much more prestigious than a hyundai. That and i've taught her well, she enjoys a drivers car now. The torsion bear rear isnt as bad as everyone says for an everyday car. Sure the multilink rear would have been nicer, but its decent for the job it has (ferrying kids/wife about)

I wouldn't be so sure now. I ordered an RS wagon mid March with a few options including Tech Pack, and was told that the car will be built week 22 or after. Turns out my car got built week 16 and dealer assures me that it does have the tech pack. I only found out today so he is still making enquiries on why it was moved forward and if so if it is a My15 build (which I strongly doubt).

Turns out that Skoda made a mistake and built my car week 16 without tech pack. I have knocked it back. I have been assured that they will build me the car with tech pack and all options I originally ordered in week 22 and that will be first week of My15 production.

Sounds like Skoda Aus have been offered some extra stock that was already built and tried to pass it off onto you to get the sale through quicker. As if a custom order was pushed through quicker that didn't match the specs. I doubt it was Skoda CZ that made any mistake and would 100% suspect someone in Australia is full of crap.

Thanks, just wanted to see how far they were willing to drop. I was estimating 5-10% but 6% seems reasonable.

Compare the two spec sheets - there's possibly more than you think. Maybe you don't need those extras but others may find them essential.

I know my FIL can't understand why Lexus exist when you "can just buy a top-of-the-line Camry" (which would make me more inclined to buy a Lexus).

Leather and engine options (and wheels?) spring to mind, there are a few other things I guess as well if I could be assed checking.

There are differences, (the Elegance has independent rear suspension i think?) but a Ambition Plus w/ Tech Pack and nav does seem to be cheaper than a elegance with the same engine.

Another difference is that the Elegance has dual zone climate not standard AC. Believe it or not this is a stumbling block with my partner who seems to require it as she often wants a different setting to me ! But I don't want a Elegance because it is leather only (that is another topic in itself) and there is no manual transmission !

I don't like leather because its hotter in summer and colder in winter. Ambition is better value IMHO if you include tech pack
