  • Anyone has more updates on the MY15 RS models? The UK car configurator suggests the following updates:

    1. Flat bottom steering wheel
    2. Option of electrically adjustable front seat - although to have this option you need to select electric mirrors and leather seats
    3. Electrically adjustable, heated and foldable door mirrors with auto dimming, Boarding-Spots and memory function
    Walking Contradiction...

2 and 3 are UK only changes, they're specs previously available else where that they've added with the MY change in the UK market. The actual MY changes were listed earlier. Considering how late into MY14 SkodaAu launched the RS, I doubt there'll be any new spec additions other than those changes.

Does that mean that the electric seats and folding mirrors are available to the Australian market for the RS?

They are available, but Skoda AU decided not to bring them here.

That's just absurd. The Elegance gets it but the RS doesn't! It's now becoming standard on most Japanese and Korean cars. Even if it is a paid component I'm sure people will add it if there are 2 drivers for the car to avoid the inconvenience of repositioning the driver seat.

            • The RS has a completely different seat. While my significantly smaller wife would have loved the memory seats the RS sports seats were a much better option if you had to choose.

              • If you want electric seats in the RS (UK Market) you have to opt for Full leather trim)

Just enquiring about folding mirrors on RS, it's a 100pound option in UK and if I can get it I'll pay for it! Still working on Grey Stitching for my interior!

The TDI is much smoother, more grunty and the 6 speed DSG is soooo much better. You can however feel the difference on bumpy roads with the solid rear end in the TDI.
Called in at the local Mazda dealer to test the 6 Wagon TDI too. The motor is less refined, bit slower off the mark but once moving the torque is incredible. The interior seems nasty and gimmicky and will quickly date.
The big difference is the extra $14k Mazda want for a change over, they re dreaming the Mazda isn t any where near as refined. Why pay more for less ? Bunch of "wankers" too, got shunted from one "bimbo" to another, then they tried to tell me how much better the Mazda was, but apparently none of them had driven the "new" Octavia. I ended up having to raise my voice and get aggressive to get my keys back, sort of place that gives dealers a bad name.
Seems weird, the 132TSI Mk3 is actually faster 0-100 than your RS would be. Sounds like it was the DSG that was the issue.

                  • I had the 132TSI for a week with the 7 speed DSG. I loved it! 1st gear wasn't fantastic, but once in 2nd gear I was impressed with the whole setup.

Never driven a 7sp 1.8tsi but I'm surprised at your opinion of the gen3 1.8tsi. My Gen1 has so much torque down low - even without the remap.

edit: Wonder if the dealer had the right fuel in it? When I bought mine the dealer filled all the vehicles with 92ron if they needed a top-up from the factory splash

                      • Umm, my vRS isn't quite standard. The 1.8l 132 has no where near the torque of the 'Superchipped' 2.0l 147. Having driven the earlier 1.8l it seemed to have more mid-range than the newest model. I think the torque curve has been moved up the rev range.

So you're really comparing apples and oranges then. I have both a 147TSI (6sp DSG) and a 132TSI (7sp DSG) in the household, and I'm extremely impressed with the 132TSI - it lacks some mid range torque compared to the 147, but overall it actually seems a better and smoother package with the 7sp DSG. Seat of the pants feel swapping between the two: I think there would be almost no difference in the 0-100kmh sprint and the 132TSI punches out of corners much better than the laggy 6 speed 147.

                          • Your right I am comparing apples to oranges, my brain seems to have a better idea what gear I need to be in rather than a mechtronics brain shuffling through 7 gear ratios.

                            • Okay, well regardless of the DSG v Manual argument (DSG is faster, but I agree that overall a manual is a far better gearbox), I should qualify my earlier statement that the main reason that the 132TSI is so fast is largely because of the MQB platform reducing significant amount of weight off the car.

Our 132TSI Octavia wagon is around 100kg lighter than the previous platform used on our 147TSI Jetta - it certainly makes a difference to performance.

                              • I wonder how many people would opt for a manual Elegance 132 given the choice. It would certainly sway me I suspect from getting another RS, but it's definitely a manual for me again next time.
