Seriously considering a A+ manual and would have certainly would have liked a manual Elegance because I really want dual zone climate BUT the Elegance comes with Leather and I would much prefer cloth... Can't seem to get exactly what I want (RS dark interior trims not the silver
plus the black headlining were things that have almost swayed me to a RS - sigh...)

Price dependant, blah, blah, blah but Elegance spec would suit me fine ifit was manual or at a push, wet DSG6. Dry DSG7 is too fragile.

My mate with the 2013 77tsi Polo that has the dry DSG7 which "doesn't need the recall done because all those mechatronics issues are fixed" (dealer says) has just had the mechatronics fail. This guy doesn't mind persisting with unreliable rubbish - he had a Lotus Elise & Evora - but he's 90% of the way to moving it on once repaired. Usually he sticks with a car for 5 years/250,000km.

      • I would have gotten a manual elegance if it was offered. Leather seats, climate control and satnav - yes please! Happy with the 1.4 though, its a ripper of an engine. Truth be told, if I had the coin, would have just bought another RS...

        • I think my Mrs would choose a manual Elegance wagon over a manual RS (my order) or a DSG Elegance. The memory seats, better economy and more luxurious finish and ride would colour her choice. But with me getting into an RS I think her replacement will be another SUV for family trucking about.

          • OK, I m pretty well set on a new Elegance TDI without "techpack" . Just cant decide between "Corrida Red or Candy White". there is only 1 "red" TDI in the country. Am I going to regret standing out like "dog balls" with the red ? Both look good with the black wheel, dark tint treatment. Argh !!

              • I have Corrida Red. Have never felt excessively obtrusive.

It hides a fair bit of dirt too. I'm not overly anal about cleaning, waxing, etc & often go 4-6 weeks without washing the car & people (who haven't a clue about cars) often ask if I've just "polished" it.

Just get the colour you want. Don't worry about resale or if you "stick out"

It's a pity that they only put the 6 speed DSG in the $40k cars (110TDI or RS). I'm almost certain that they would sell more cars if they put the transmission that has proven to be more reliable (DQ250) into the lower end cars. Even though VWA claims to have "fixed" the DQ200 I still wouldn't want to have one outside warranty.

I'm looking at the Octavia as a possible replacement car for the Tig in the next 6-12 months, however as I don't want a manual (it's my work car) and won't touch the DQ200 then this pushes me to the premium end of the model range. I'm still not 100% convinced that the value proposition is there for the higher end models when you take resale into account.

Once you tick a couple of the options on a RS wagon, it will be pushing north of $50k which is twice the price of the base model in the range. If you look at other car models that have a wide spread of cars in the same model range, the ones at the top cop the worst hiding in terms of resale. Worst % resale and biggest $ hit.

Of course resale is only going to hit you at the other end but it does effect your ability to get out of one car and into a new one.

Skoda do offer a factory backed warranty for two more years though, effectively giving you five years - $1,650 on an Octavia.

But you want the RS, don't deny it. It's under $57k, keep your deductions.

What I really want is an RS 4motion. Now that would be an awesome drive

And yes I do try and write off as many of my "motor vehicle expenses" as possible.

Unfortunately I do have to be able to afford the repayments amongst the rest of my family interests

First the Speaker of the House 'made' me order some new OZ wheels, next she's keen on the new RS after seeing the new tv advert and me pointing out it comes in a wagon. I've suggested it could be a good replacement down the track for the SUV, possibly even second hand given the resale!

Personally I'm thinking of where I can source those chrome rims to fit to Junior Dubbers pram.

Yes well I'm talking list price before any discounts of a DSG RS wagon. I'm sure I could negotiate a better price but then the introductory pricing on the base model was pretty keen too.

That seems excessive. Fully optioned you'd be hard pressed to hit over $50k. Hopefully your negotiation skills can help you save something like 8% off that.

And I agree a 4motion RS wagon would be ideal. This would have been my choice as my Subaru 3.0R-B replacement. And I might have paid $50k for that optioned up to the same level as my order (valuing the drivetrain enhancement at $7k). If Skoda bring one of them in to Aus sub-$50k they will sell a bucketload!

Well I was just trying to make a comparison of listed on road prices - $25,488 for a base model Ambition 103TSI manual vs. (say) $50,947 for an optioned up RS DSG Wagon with Tech pack, leather, metallic paint, chrome and 19" black pack.

Of course both would attract a discount but the RS wagon is still 2 x the price of the base model Octavia. Which is where I suspect it may hurt with resale.... though the two cars are very different mechanically and pretty much just share the body (I am sure this is an over-simplification).

Yes coming from a stage 2+ Tig this is the one thing I'm not looking forward to is lack of traction. I do some country dirt road driving in my job so AWD is a definite plus.
