Which two airbags are we losing?
I hope its the knee ones for the driver - I need to mount equipment under there

It'll be the same airbag config as the Ambition, so I do think it is the knee ones yeah.

The two optional airbags are the rear side airbags. I'm yet to work out whether those airbags would be beneficial or not recommended when child seats are fitted. The knee bag is standard across the range.



It seems the online configurator became available recently, unless I have missed it before. It alludes to options being available outside of the two option packages available - a little annoying if you have specified a car based on contradictory information from Skoda Australia.

So the vRS will have a wet-clutch 6-speed DSG. Less issues than the dry 7-speed. Good. There shouldn't be any problems/issues/recalls right?

There seems to be a Lennock Motors (I think) demo Octavia in Canberra. I saw it at the Woden Westfield yesterday. It's covered in signage telling you how cool it is and that it's VW tech...

Why do you know for sure that the side airbags will be missing? No one seems to know anything much about the RS yet. And even what is coming on the boats might not be the final story, we will get some remnants of my14 and then it's new balls for my15. Not hard to put those in.

I don't think they would either here nor there for child seats.

Of course it's only speculation, but the RS models already delivered in Australia have been equipped with 7 airbags only. With Skoda's tendency to ship cars to Australia that are not Australian spec, it could go either way.

I doubt they'd ship 42 non-spec cars though and I bet that the dealer that called the current demo Octys not aus spec was just trying to fob some one off.

With the extended child/booster seat and the future plans to expand to 10/12 yrs it's not so much an issue anymore. Adults are told not to lean on the door with curtain airbags as it is but sometimes it happens when you fall asleep.

I know auto open/close is an option on the normal Octavia. Not sure where the buttons are though, maybe check out a normal model with it?

went to the skoda dealership today to have a closer look at the new octavia.
i test drove the elegance liftback, with tech-pack, 2.0 tdi today.
i'm nicely impressed. the interior & electronics r nicely done. nice lines on the body.
i must admit the stop-start function wasn't to my liking.

as my dealer put it nicely, when comparing the mk2 octavia to the new mk3 octavia - "its like sleeping in a different bed.......in a nice way".
its familiar.....but different.

looking at the skoda aus configurator, there isn't much color choices available

the RS looks promising.....depending on wat options r provided.

Matt I'm not sure about the RS, but the electric bootlid a $400-odd option on the normal models. The buttons are on the key, the centre console and, of course, the bootlid itself as you said. Shame Australia doesn't get the extra boot floor, or the easy-fold seats (you pull a tag like in the Mazda6). In fact looking at our configurator, the options list seems fairly basic in my opinion, with little room for individualisation. Yes most things are standard but I'd like dual-zone climate control in the Ambition Plus, as well as heated seats but they're not available at all!

its available on the wagon models only.

For convenience, the automatic boot can be controlled from four separate locations:
- via remote control
- from the centre console
- with an internal button on the boot
- and via an external soft-touch boot button.
