Its just a placeholder price. No way can they get away with charging the same amount. Wish the RVC was a standalone option. May end up retrofitting it at a later date.

    • non starter for me. according to the dealer, VW has been dumping prices on the Tiguan so I was offered less than half of what I paid for the car with just 17,000km, leather/electric seats, Adaptive Chassis Control suspension, bixenon, park assist 2 and RVC+.

      • Somone has got a Metal Grey RS in the UK, looks like an interesting colour.

          • Yup and in the black pack they are anthracite not silver. I was hoping metal grey would be slightly lighter. Next stop moon white!!

              • He might be dreaming but I doubt a dealer would offer more than 38k

I was checking carsales.com.au for similar spec cars of that vintage. Guess I was misled by those ads from other sellers.

Almost every dealer will follow the redbook price, judging by your price Im guessing it was the case here?

Options have little effect on trade ins sadly

You will always take a huge hit on a 2 year old car, right in the steep part of the depreciation curve. I would keep it if I was you. Why were you considering a change?

No particular reason really I bought the Tiguan because I wanted a bigger Golf. At that time, I was attempting to work outstation so needed some decent cargo space to bring all my gear to Sydney.

But it was only when I started loading up the car that I realised how small the Tiguan was. I had a bit more headroom than the Golf but nothing like the expanse of the wagon's boot.

I had someone pick me up not too long ago and he used a Passat wagon and I was honestly amazed at how much space there was. Swallowed up two huge suitcases with ample space to boot. I could never fit two in the Tiguan, much less the Golf without needing to remove the shelf.

But in reality, I guess I was just itching for a change

I guess it's a small blessing - I would have been a bit sad to lose the electric seats on the Tiguan, the adaptive chassis control, the 4Motion or the reliable 7 speeder DQ500.

I paid 56k for the Tiguan - didn't expect the options to take such a big hit.

                        • I know it's a hard call, but when I bought my original RS so many people told me how it wouldn't keep its value for resale, I would lose money on it etc. But in the end I figured that I just loved the car, and I was buying it as something to drive and enjoy every day not just to keep for an eventual sale.

It came off lease just on 12 months ago, and as I was moving overseas I knew I had to sell it anyway. We sold it privately, and my wife (she stayed in Australia for another 3 months) put off a few low offers and eventually sold it for around $1,500 less than the residual value on the lease. As an accountant, I had a momentary twinge of pain about that but then remembered what I had decided when I first bought it. I'd had a heap of fun with it, it was great at both work (trips to the tip with the trailer) and play (driving down the Clyde Mountain) and the loss added up to around $1 a day - great value in the end!

                          • $56k for a Tig? blimey.

aslsw - lovely piece of accountants justification. I do similar calculations to justify my purchases (or veto of other family members wants). People hate it.

My wife's bike has cost us $50 per ride over 15 years. My daughter bought an expensive skateboard because her friend bought one, it's cost $75/ride.

Wife bitches because whenever my tyres wear out I buy a set of 2nd hand wheels & tyres replace the lot. The last set cost me 1/2cent per km. The set before that were 1.5 cents/km. Her car's tyres cost her employer 5c/km (which comes out of her package anyway). Shuts her up pretty quick.
