    • Did/will anyone purchase extended warranty? I know there was a sale on it when I put my order in back in May, is it still on? I'm 50/50 about getting it.....

      • I tried to push Skoda to go halves due to the delays. They pretty much just ignored me.

I put down $3k and just signed the standard contract. With an RS, might be worth while seeing if you can get something in, like a car.
If you're going to pay in full, see if you can do so on credit card. Think of the points. I only managed $6k before the finance dept said p@#$ off, cash or cheque on the balance.
The Tig has a small boot and my friend is struggling to fit everything in when they go away (2 kids). Just a thought.
              Good luck

              • Just bought the latest Motor Magazine to check out the 2014 Bang For Your Bucks sub-$50K article. Out of the 13 car line up the Octavia RS sedan manual came out 6th (just ahead of the WRX and GTI Performance DSG). They commented "It's comfortable, accomplished, unassuming, want-for-little motoring, that's quicker and more fun than you might expect. If this was All-round Goodness For Your Modest Buck, this'd be a clear favourite".

Interestingly in the article the Octavia RS did 6.30sec 0-100km/h and 14.60sec 0-400m times (overall 4th and beating the GTI), which is way ahead of the official Skoda 6.80sec 0-100km/h. It also went well in the lap time and 80-120 km/h (overall 4th for both), just behind the GTI. Brakes also were still good after 3 laps of the track, which wasn't the case for a lot of other cars in the test.

So overall a good result. For those interested in the top 8:

                1) Renault Sport Clio RS200
                2) Fords Fiesta ST
                3) WRX STI
                4) Holden SS Ute (manual)
                5) Peugeot 208 GTI
                6) Octavia RS Sedan (manual)
                7) WRX (manual)
                Golf GTI Performance (DSG)

                    • BFYB article looks interesting. A RS manual running 6.3 0-100 is solid. DSG in theory should knock 0.2 off that. Wonder why they tested a manual RS but a DSG Golf. Maybe availability.

                      • They have the rare manual rs that Skoda tells us about, but is difficult to find in the wild.

                        • There is a manual RS wagon at a Newcastle dealer but as it has has leather seats and the sunroof both of which we didn't want it wasn't hard to say no to paying $45k instead of $40k for the DSG which is supposed to be 2k more than the manual

                          • Yeah, they mentioned VW were not able to provide a manual (or base GTI) at the time of testing. Skoda give the DSG .1 to .2 secs slower time for the 0-100 compared to the manual (possibly due to different gearing I'd say). Regardless, sub 7 seconds is still good for an economical family size car.

The 80-120km/h test time was 3.9 secs, which highlights how nice the engine is over a broad range of revs. In comparison the WRX manual was 4.49 secs. Even the SS ute (3.5) and WRX STI (3.7) weren't much faster in this test.

At $1695 I'm inclined to give it a miss
                              Thoughts?
