Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • It appears that Photobucket would like a contribution.
This happened to me, and I ended up giving them a small donation.
      Rotors look so sweet.

        • i know this appears to be a very minor update but it has actually taken a long time to get to this pont, i installed one of these...

          which changed this...

          to this...

a very slight increase in white light; i thought it might help my reverse camera in the dark. i finally managed to get my camera to auto switch once reverse is engaged...

and finally with all my coding updated i currently have no fault codes. my car has always had a fault code in one form or another so very happy at this point in time and now means i can move forward with further mods...

            • must be the month for minor mods. i also fitted my ttrs lpfp, s3 ones have a blue top...

took this photo for reference so i know the connections required on the uprated pump controller (coming soon)...

and finally installed my obd y splitter. works a treat and clips in to the original mounting spot like the oem connector so got to be happy with that...

                • now that I have proved my rear view camera set up and auto switching I thought I’d tidy up the wiring and relay module. Went shopping to jaycar and picked up the following ingredients...

using a 5 dollar superchaep leatherman wannabe I carved out the holes for the camera / media inputs and the output gland for the power and rnse input / output...

with my current set up the camera signal sometimes flickers on and off so i’m going to install a diode this time and hope it fixes the issue. also revised warlords diagram slightly to reflect my set up and include the rnse reverse switch...

once complete it should be a substantial improvement on my original relay set up. If anyone wants it to try with their rnse they are welcome to take it for free, pm your mail address...

                    • ohhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhh, the calipers finally turned up. i was a bit worried at one point that i had blown a grand and somewhere in europe someone was throwing a party...

i now have all the goodies for the install:
                      - OEM TTRS Calipers
                      - OEM TTRS Discs
                      - OEM TTRS Pads
                      - HELL RS3 Black Braided Brake Lines
                      - NO time what so ever to install them!

i was planning to install them myself and bought a pressure bleeder already. due to zero time i might give p&p a call to see if they can fit them ready for the next happy laps...

a quick pic of a caliper, releived that they arrived in the condition they were advertised in...

                      • it’s been a while since i posted an update so about time some pics went up...

i have been overseas to HK for a week in september so nothing was done on the car that month but I did get chance to do a bit in october, none of which went according to plan...

i set about installing the ttrs lpfp pwm controller which all turned to custard. before it went downhill I took a photo of the 10 pin electrical connector prior to pulling the pins so i could remember where they go back...

mistake number one was forgetting to take a photo of the 5 pin connector also. a big thanks to Cam on golf net au for sending me the photo below so i can tell which wire colour goes to which pin number...

i spent about 2 hours trying to remove the pins from the 10 pin electrical connector and then i got really frustrated and monkeyed the whole thing completely. i smashed it in to a 100 pieces to try and save the pins themselves...

saving private pin didnt work and i ended up stripping two pins from the wires...

i was almost ready to give up and had a pretty sleepless night wondering if i would actually be able get hold of the blue connector block from audi; let alone know what the part number would be...

i contacted another guy from golf net au (Scott) who within half an hour got back to me with the 10 pin connector block part number and said he had the last one in stock in oz. it was posted out to me that day and turned up 2 days later along with all the repair wires and new pins...

without getting too d&m this is what car moding is really about for me. its a lot of like minded people who come together to help each other out, share ideas and give encouragement. cheers to Scott and Cam...

i ended up making a bracket to hold the pwm controller under the car by using one of the bolts from the fuel tank strap and finally threaded the wires through to the pump. now all i need is more time off to wire up the relay to shut the pump off when the ignition key is turned off...

there are two draw backs with the ttrs controller, one is the pump not shutting off with the key and the other is no pump prime when you open the drivers side door. the first one i will rectify as above; the second is more complicated an involves making a timer which i dont know how to do. i have however decided to install the oem push start switch next to the handbrake; yes i know its a w@nk and i still have to use the key...

my theory and excuse for fitting the push start is that by the time the key is turned it will provide the pump with a bit of prime before the start button is pushed, its a lame excuse...

                        • no joy with the pwm controller so i moved on to the brake install, simples...

it was pretty straight forward to remove the old calliper, the bolts were f king tight though so i had to jack both bolts off after visiting the hardware store to buy a 17mm socket. who doesn’t provide a 17mm socket in a socket set; I should have realised it was all going to go pete tong from that point forward...

a quick pic of the new calliper with the old discs while i was waiting for the wd40 to work its magic...

after the old disc was freed up i removed it and tried the new one, on the home straight or so i thought...

i installed the new braided brake line and noticed the bracket on the new calliper didn’t line up, this can be fixed at a later date by “realigning” the bracket...

excellent, now try and refit the wheels without the calliper hitting the back face of the spokes (where they start to curve in to the rim). you can imagine how overjoyed i was to find this out...

a quick pic of how it sat before i stripped all the new parts off and put it back to standard, oh yeah...

i decided to take a reference shot of the bolt length while i ponder my options to install spacers...

by this point i was well and truly over it and questioning my decision to modify a perfectly adequate car. i don't like adequate though so I started to narrow down my options; including the expensive option of purchasing bimoto wheels...

coincidently at this point i was due to catch up with Al to get his thoughts on going bt. i told him about the brakes and he suggested with additional camber the spacers might work. once again my faith was restored and it’s now booked in for a suspension set up, cheers Al...

                              • while i was laid under the car cursing the stupid wheel spoke design i decided to remove one of the fog lights to check the fitting type...

i want to upgrade to leds to match the daytime running lights. i know they won’t be any good in fog but i’m not expecting too much fog in brissy anytime soon...

new lights installed, getting a bulb out warning but ordered some resistors to fix that…

                                and from the front…
