How did you go with those rims? And be careful who you bend over infront of... I hear maca has a thing for ya rofl. And if you can't make it i'll be extremely disappointed in you and probably cry....And when I cry VW Coolant comes out and it stings... so don't make me cry!!! rofl.

After a productive day and taking the skin off my knuckles many times today I have replaced my steering rack on my slanted Driveway... 2 trolley jacks and 2 stands... and hand tools, Man I can't wait to get this air compressor and air tools.... Took ages and had to support engine on the too jacks... rofl was very "backyard" mechanic's lucky it didn't roll away. So now I man corner safely when we do motokahana. Can't wait

Happy to provide input/assistance where I can.

I'll most likely be at a QR Sprint in August (either mid week or weekend). It's free to come out and have a look so those that are unsure about such an activity, really should come out to see what takes place. Usually good for a car perve too, massive mix from old alfa's to late model porsche's, etc.

no concrete plans for a date but about the only thing free later in the year would be the weekend before action day..
will gather more info soon. currently the topic is sitting idle while im juggling a few things myself. the original idea was to build interest & have it the saturday before action day sunday NEXT YEAR, the instant response on here suprised me honestly. proves my point that there is some serious demand for sporting events not just static shows.
              thanks again guys

Next year? Meaning we'd have to wait 15 months? I probably won't even have the Jetta in 15 months

Figured I should weigh in on this as I've got a bit of track time under my belt like STIDUB.

I've got a Excel in the excel cup, have been racing it for 2 seasons now and also done alot of other hill climbs, sprints and driver training days over the last few years.

the best value for money motorsport is motokhana, yes its slower speeds but is still great fun to push you car through its apces. The West Morton club (Based at Ipswich/QR) is my pick for this type of event. its about $50 per car and you get a good number of runs for a day. Mick McMillian runs it should you wish to get into contact with him.

Hill Climbs are ok, but I doubt you'll ever get the track to yourself for a reasonable price, and if you join a testing day its ~100ish + the cams day licence for $20, for maybe 6 runs? considering each run is ~50seconds your $ vs time isn't very good. I'm not sure of any other local tracks apart from mt cotton.

Sprint days offer the best $ vs Time, street prints (Run by David, trackattack.com.au, he also looks after the excel's. kinda) cost $120 for 4x4lap sessions. you can get morning practice untimed for another $50 I think. even with the racing, at 60-70sec a lap (+ warm up and cool down) its better value. Trade off is lakeside eats cars, and QR is basically build for drag cars. its a little safer as there is runoff, and if you spin at 160 on T1 you end up alive still (ask me how I know... footage is somewhere).
Morgan park is better for a drivers circuit, and they arrange deals for groups, but its $200ish for 4 hours, and not all of that is on track. SDT.com.au will sort you out if you want to inquire about it. Track is forgiving and challanging with multiple layout. Will not have timing!! dont need cams or other racing licences as its done as driver education. *cough*

My vote is to tag along to a | IWMAC khana day. Its safe, cheap and fun. If people feel the need for speed they can hang around and hit the 1/4 at willowbank next door.

I agree with this option fellow Dubbers. I am willing to travel close to 2500km for a day of 'lout' with fellow VDubbers. I came down for Winternats and was disappointed that I didn't have time to fit in a day with QR as well. Doing an autocross/motokhana course and then heading over for some quarter mile action sounds like a very good investment for me out here in western Qld. If you can organise this for September/October that would be excellent, as I reckon other VDubbers from all over Qld would hear about it and perhaps come along as well.

Remember there are fellow Watercooled members that come from outside Brisbane and I reckon we would be very keen to come along, if the day would be set down the track so we can plan.

Anyway! Good planning you Brisbane VDubbers and please try to include us country VDubbers in your plans. Yep I would pay between $50 and $200 for the day - including the autocross/motokhana and quater mile.

Straight from the horse's (Dave/OP) mouth himself:

                                40 people maximum.
Layouts are currently undecided and he will update this when he finishes working on his corner.
Mininum cost $100, max cost $125 and helmet use is yet to be comfirmed.
