Im so keen to take the vr6 out on a track, definitely safer/more legal then the streets.

Id be very interested in a performance driving course, which I'm sure as a group you would get a decent discount on one. Would be a few hundred, but probably worth it, rather then jumping on a track and winging it, actually learning some real technique. Id also be keen on a track day and willing to pay a hundred or 2. Motorkhana not so much.

        Ironman - thankyou
Dub84 - brilliant way to justify the costing

motorkhana is where you learn/relearn the basics of car control, ask everyone what they thought of the vw driving experience that we had at norwell recently, myself, my girlfriend, vr6pitcrew all thought it was AWESOME & left hungry for more, to give you an idea though, that was $250 for 5hrs, with instructor but the basics can be self taught amongst peers too, a whole day motorkhana for $100ish suddenly seems brilliant value for money from where i see it, though you use your own fuel/brakes/tyres obviously...

STIDUB - perhaps have a chat with Joel Neilsen at Safe Driver Training, they run all sorts of driver days around brisbane. I have organised a few days with, skid pans when I had a subaru, and have done some advanced driver training with SDT at morgan park and QR. For what QR charge for half a days hire, you can get Morgan park for a full day, so those guys that think getting track time for less than $100 for a half day are dreaming cos the hire charge is HUGE. The QR and lakeside sprints seem to be the cheapest available, but had doubled in price over the past 4-5yrs

If it's track time, I'd very likely be in with you and might try attend one of your club meets. But I've found that on these forums there's a lot of "gonna guys". Gonna do a track, but in reality will never will, which is why I haven't bothered to try organise them here.

By doing a driver training day, it may also help insulate you from the organisation and cost of the event. Perhaps aim for 5-10 people and let the training centre populate the rest of the participants... I'd suggest morgan park for a day out, anyone genuine shouldn't be concerned about the drive out there, so worth it.

All sounds like a lot of fun, but quick gear changes (R to D/D to R) would be a biatch in a DSG because it takes about a second for the gear to engage after shifting. Oh and I think I'll be throwing my stock rims back on for this

How strictly restricted is this event to Volkswagens?

Look at the QR/Lakeside sprints, perhaps we could get a VW only session if we could get 15-20 participants. They do that for the excel series, backing it onto the sprint days.

Unless I'm over committed with uni, I'll be at the QR sprints in August - check out Queensland Raceway :: 1800 RACERS for more details.

reserving a group of 20 people for a sprint session is fairly pricey, spoken to the guy that does the excel cup, and its a BIG risk on his part. one vwdcq cant be convinced to take, its currently majority hardparkers/show/resto/daily people, people interested legitimately in racing are counted on one hand, myself - building my car, the club car - barely used for anything but warwick 1/8th mile each year, neil penboss/wally - drag beetle, sides - runs at mt cotton & few other hillclimb rounds occasionally, another guy with a race bug that lives overseas, and vwma editor craig hughes with a formula Vee... feel free to add to that, especially once my car is done - running open class anything goes just for fun myself.

BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP

the vw community will make this happen not me. tho if i win lotto yes i will have a trackday for myself in whatever car i can

while im on nights ive got 1/2 a chance of getting to the hopeful venue in business hours...

also im told lakeside isnt friendly to beginners, to cater for more people to enjoy that to the maximum extent a learning event seems logical to me...

Second that. QR is best/safest for beginners. It is quite a boring track but is challenging enough to allow you to learn racing lines and braking points, morgan park is a great little circuit but doesn't have much overtaking space for the novice.

I have never been round a race track before so the beginner option suits me perfect.

QR would probably be a pretty good option if you could get it for a reasonable price.
