Don't get me wrong, I love lakeside and regularly race in a one make circuit series on it, I do quite well too!
However for someone who might not have alot of track time, they may push a little too hard a little too quick. It does happen, and I'd hate to see someone walk home.

Horses for courses, just something to be mindful of.

I'm keen for a day at the track, have not done a lot of track work and do not won't to bend my car so would be taking it easy. Can anyone recommend some where that does driver training for this type of thing?

Check our Safe Driver Training (SDT), they do their training at Morgan Park. Good tuition and plenty of track time. Do the advanced day.

Lakeside a car killer and needs to be respected, some bumps in "fun" places, as in the dog leg on the straight. More fun than QR = absolutely once you can drive. For a begin, prepare for some serious butt clenching and sweaty palms.

To those that remember it from glory days, it's essential to bear in mind that even a lightly modded, moderately driven car will be capable of similar times and speeds to the 80's and early 90's supercars. The track hasn't grown much (more barriers in places, more track in some), but the speed of cars, braking and cornering has continued to increase, so when it lets go, you're travelling faster. As a beginner, it can be quite daunting and not the place to learn how to drive with others around you. QR and Morgan park are great stepping stones for that.

PS- QR and Lakeside have street car sprints this week. Saturday at QR, Sunday at Lakeside. It's free to go look. I won't make this round, am focusing on getting the car set-up for next year, hope to be a regular.

              THIS!

Have done this twice before at QR with another car club. It's called "happy laps" at Lakeside and QR. Helmet is not required.

These breakfasts are excellent for clubs. Get together, have a chat over breakfast, then spend some time getting used to the track.

The idea is not to go as fast as you can. It's all about learning and getting used to the car. Speeds are limited to fast road speeds (generally no more than 140kmh) and if you misbehave or act agressively you will be kicked off. These events have been run for several years and nobody has crashed.

You're far more likely to get people going to an event like this because it's a very safe environment for using the track and it isn't just about the track time, it's about club members getting to know each other better over breakfast and chatting after going on the track. Several other car clubs have done this and they are great days.

I know from talking to friends, even ones that drive sports cars, that the idea of motorkhana or real racing scares most of them off. These breakfasts introduce beginners to the track and help them realise that it isn't so scary after all. It's cheap too, so that gets rid of the cost objection that a lot of people have.

This sounds like an awesome idea.
Cheap and none of the safety requirements.

I would be down for this once a month

Plus one! Sounds like a great starting place for novices to get used to their own vehicles in a track situation and also chat to seasoned tracksters to gain valuable advice.

Okay so I emailed QLD Raceway to ask about the happy laps at Lakeside:

Happy laps are an easy thing to do. When did you have in mind? Normally we try and run them on the same day as another event (sprints or general practice). This way we can keep the costs down as we don´t have to bring staff in especially for your event.

I have attached a menu for you to have a look at it outlines the different options you can take.
As for dates you can do it if you give me an idea of when you would like to do it I can see whats nearby,
                            Hear from you soon,

                            Also the menu's available:

Also i have asked them to let me know what dates/times are free in November so we can organise something then.
That way we have time to get everyone interested and also far enough in advance to keep a date claimer in your personal calendars.

Trying to get more details out of them as well like the min/max number of cars.
