Originally posted by DkN View PostOk just to clarify, the instructions I posted do work, they update the software in this order: BSP (colour text screen), MPU (white screen with text in the middle), MCU (software menu after unit boots into radio).
For the BSP update to come up, it is essential that you:
- start with a blank SD card (format it to make sure)
- make sure the "UPD" file in the firmware zip is the first file copied to the blank SD card (this is why you must extract this file and this file only, by itself, into the blank SD card before you extract the rest)
If your unit does not boot into the colourful text screen with the firmware SD in the GPS slot, most cases it's because the UPD file is not the first file copied to the SD card.
After the BSP update the MPU update will run itself. After it tells you to reboot the unit, whether the unit reboots itself or not, SWITCH OFF the unit. And then, REMOVE the firmware SD from the GPS slot, and start the unit again. If you do not remove the firmware SD before you start it again, you will end up at the colourful text screen for the BSP update again, and you will have to repeat the process and wait for the MPU update.
If you removed the SD from the GPS slot and started the unit it will simply boot into radio. When you see the radio screen, insert the firmware SD into the GPS slot again. You will get an automated popup menu asking to update the MCU. Choose yes and wait, then the unit will turn itself off when the MCU update is complete. At that point your firmware update is complete, remove the card from the GPS slot (again, do this before you turn on the unit or you will end up at the BSP update screen again), and you can turn on your unit with BSP, MPU and MCU all updated.
For reference, the updated firmware numbers are:
BSP: MS9.D
MCU: DNS810.131202_CAN
MPU: DNS810.A9.20131129
I use the exact same process above to update my firmware every time, so if you don't end up with these versions, go back, read the instructions, and follow them to the letter.

No-one who saw Sandy's videos would've been prepared for the feedback we've seen in here since people have actually started to receive them.
It's time to give it marks out of ten.

I just read over about 30 pages of this thread.. quite interesting really.
can't decide whether to go for:
DNS810 - Bugs etc
ANS810 - fear of lack of support with the new DNS810
RNS510 - Price & lack of features compared to DNS/ANS810
Price is a big issue, but then peace of mind is too. Was there a post i missed about timing of release for a final DNS810 unit?
Cheers,
Cody

I'm willing to take the gamble on the DNS because, why not, and because i'm a techie, early adopter and yea. Personally, I don't think the DNS will be prime time ready for at least a few more months. I wouldn't bother with the ANS at this point either.
It's up to you what you want to do. If you just want something right now that just works, pony up and get the RNS and know that it will work flawlessly.MY10 Golf Mk6 103TDI DSG Candy White | Revo Stage 1 ECU Tune | 18" Talladegas | GTI Front/Rear/Exhaust | R LED Taillights | GTI Steering Wheel | VW Discover Media | Focal IFVW Front Speakers | Mk7 Climatronic Panel |

For me, I decided that almost every alternative was better value than the RNS. I read a number of average reports about its performance and I wasn't keen on being tied to a manufacturer for map updates (like I am with my other car at $200 a pop). I would also have had to buy BT which made it a slam dunk against it.
I was in the DNS group buy until about 3 weeks ago and I got out. At the time, the DNS had too many questions over it so I bought a Pioneer AppRadio. This gave me almost everything I wanted (no MFD integration) in a package that gave me excellent integration with my iPhone.
If you go with something other than the 3 you mentioned you will have more stuffing around with adaptor harnesses to get them to work (Connects2 make these bit it's an extra cost).
If you're not in a hurry, the DNS is looking better again. If you are in a hurry and don't want SatNav then all of the major manufacturers have a double DIN unit that will be excellent.
At the moment only an RNS will give you full MFD integration.MY08 Mk5 GT Sport - sold

Edit: the above should only be done once the BSP (color text screen) and MPU (white screen with success). For some reason the MCU file was deleted from the SD card during the BSP and MPU update process. So instead of doing it all over again, you can just update the firmware by itself as per above.Last edited by swyner; 11-12-2013, 11:33 PM.
