I had a small odd issue today. Was using the Bluetooth for a call. Then 1 min before I got to my destination the steering wheel controls to volume stopped working. Once I got to my destination. A key pull solved the issue. I'll add it to the Google doc in the morning. Is this what everyone meant when they refer to the canbus/steering wheels button issue?

I figured I'll post some pictures of the errors that I am getting. Been using the unit for about two weeks so have gotten pretty familiar with its quirks and bugs.

While playing music form the SD and using GPS navigation I inevitably get lock ups with one of the following errors:

Also, today it was 31F outside and I received the infamous white screen of death (for the third or fourth time now):



Warming the car up a bit and a key pull seemed to have fixed the issue for the rest of the ride.

Ill add to the photo case, just sent this one to Sandy for recording.... I love the discolored appearance the screen has, no that's not my camera, that's actually what the screen looks like with all the light and dark marks.

Good to see im not the only one having memory issues with SD playback. I had the monsun.exe error yesterday again too.

It never really occurred to me until seeing those pics but during the update process I had that white screen issue a couple of times. I had to reboot the unit several times to get around it. It also happened once when I had that memory leak msg. I have always been able to get around it with a reboot or 10 though and I haven't seen it since getting the new firmware up successfully.

The white screen appears during the update (MPU update) but is pure white with no color lines going up and down. Can you confirm that you only saw a solid white screen? Reason being, we need to isolate the cause of this ""cold weather" white screen us North Americans are having.

Ok, from the files you extracted from Sandy's firmware zip file, there should be one that starts with AS_ (think). Just copy that over to a blank SD card and try. Let me know what files you get when you extract the zip from Sandy...maybe there was a problem with the extraction?

I just read over about 30 pages of this thread.. quite interesting really.
can't decide whether to go for:
DNS810 - Bugs etc
ANS810 - fear of lack of support with the new DNS810
RNS510 - Price & lack of features compared to DNS/ANS810

Price is a big issue, but then peace of mind is too. Was there a post i missed about timing of release for a final DNS810 unit?

Early on I was almost sold over with the DNS but the chopping & changing of features & the stuffing around really put me off.

I'm just a simple guy & hate it when things don't work. Hence I love the RNS as it has all the basic features I need in a car stereo (mind you I have BT already). I have never had to reset or worry about it

Not sure what you meant by price though (you have BT also). For $900 vs $700 DNS the RNS will hold its value on resale, that's the accountant in me.

I read a number of average reports about its performance and I wasn't keen on being tied to a manufacturer for map updates (like I am with my other car at $200 a pop).

No it was definitely not the MPU update screen. I could almost see the "Welcome To VW" screen in the background but it was very washed out and the screen was predominantly white with the vertical stripes. The problem is I can't remember the exact circumstances under which it happened. It was during the update process and I had to redo it a couple of times to get it to stick. Initially I couldn't get the BSP to update so it could have been related to that still being on the old revision. Either way I will keep a close eye on it for you and report back if it occurs again.

Are you on the latest firmware? It should have fixed the out of memory issue, or so I thought.

At this stage it looks like that the monsun.exe crash is linked to white screen - AFAIK all those who had that error have seen the white screen issue.

Sorry could you explain a bit more? Do you not have the Skoda RNS-510 fascia to go with it? Or are you after changing the interface to Skoda green? The former can be found online or at your dealer while the latter can be done by going to aux-in, long pressing the middle of the far left of the screen, and using the options that appear on screen to change boot and loading screens. Hard button colour is set in menu -> display -> key color.

So any grand predictions on when this will actually happen? And with any reliability?

It already has all of those quoted features. The initial batch seem to have some production issues which the final release batch is meant to have fixed. They began production today, but I'm not inclined to jump straight in. I will wait for newer software and get a new sample unit to test with myself first. If it's as they promised and the production unit has no issues, I would expect a mid-January delivery.

Please confirm which updates you saw go through. MCU is the last update, after you see the white MPU update screen and reboot the unit. After the unit has booted into radio (you would go through calibration of the screen first), then insert the firmware SD again into the GPS slot. You will get an automatic popup window asking to update MCU, which you need to confirm, then it will say updating, and turn off the unit in a minute or two. If you did not get to this point you did not update the MCU. If you did, well your MCU should be updated...
