Battery drain seems odd, I played with mine for a good 30 mins last week, without starting the car, started the next morning no issues.

Personally I haven't found it to be a real issue, especially since the RNS-510 is also resistive. That said, the point is that the unit was supposed to be capacitive. I think it is best for those who feel like this is an issue to message me. I can't do much better than $20 off per person if I'm to give a universal discount since Audiosources is not supporting me on this, but if those who don't mind are kind enough to not seek compensation I can give the others a bit more. Of course if you don't mind but feel like you are entitled then you are still free to message me.
I personally feel sorry for the guys who went in on the early batch and have had to deal with all the nasty surprises, in addition to helping out by finding and documenting bugs. (Something which AS should have been paying people to do) The early batch people at least should be financially compensated for their trouble. With the rest of us having the option to completely back out now that we know this information.
Do you have any documented correspondence with AS regarding the resistive screen claims? Or was it all just verbal?

Could I have a faulty GPS antenna?
As for placement, I have mine pretty much on top of the dash just under one piece of thin plastic.
In my 2009 MY10 Jetta there is a metal grill that is on top of the dash which significantly lowers the signal (previously the GPS was right under here). You can actually see the difference in reception by putting the grill back on top so if you have a similar grill in your Jetta - you need to position your GPS either deeper or to the side.

Originally posted by swong View PostIt's not a real breaker for me, but it's disappointing as it's one of the features that I based my decision to purchase on. I know it's not your fault Sandy, but the reseller of a product should be partly responsible, especially when the customers have no direct relationship with the supplier themselves.

The situation with software bugs was disclosed beforehand, although I did not experience the CAN-Bus slowdown issue so that wasn't listed, but this has now been fixed in any case. The overseas customers who have the white screen low temperature issue probably has the worst of the surprises, followed by the resistive screen and missing cables (which also has now been resolved as I will be sending out the cables to those that didn't receive it).
My communications with the manager is mostly through a Chinese IM program. I call him when there is an urgent matter or something that he hasn't replied to for a few days.
The issue with all this is that the manager started telling me about the unit long before details were finalised. They were all pre-release information although he has simply said "DNS will have etc" without hint of any doubt. In the case of capacitive screen he forgot to even tell me later that the unit was going to ship with resistive screens - he told me it would be capactive months ago, probably didn't even remember he did that.
Having said that, he is generally receptive to suggestions and does consider my advice. The main issue is that he promises too much too early - not really lying just saying things before they are certain. I do expect to still be able to maintain a good working relationship with him but as I said, I have learned my lesson and in the future will not be acting on anything but already released, concrete unit details.
Regarding the future - I don't believe the DNS will receive capacitive screens at least in the foreseeable future. There are wider issues of WinCE 6.0 multi-touch and capacitive screen driver support, so I think a capacitive screen would have to wait till the next generation of Audiosources units.Last edited by DkN; 10-12-2013, 09:24 PM.TR 08 Golf GT TDI, Custom Code Phase 1, Milltek Exhaust, Whiteline RSB + ALK, APR Carbonio Intake

Sandy, I've been quietly watching all this play out and have yet to see you really lose your lid. Well done for keeping your cool. couple of questions, how much you are pushing back to/ on AS? Do you have any recourse to go back and get them to review/ adjust pricing of the unit seeing it was based on a list of specs which have now changed to some extent. I know you are offering $20 in compensation but surely, considering the need for add on modules at a later stage, the issue with the screen and the other bits and bobs AS would/ should be accountable for more than just the $20? Again, I can't state how well you have handled all our raging and dummy spits, I guess I'm kinda hoping you are doing a bit of raging of your own hehe'81 Sigma| Sports Steering Wheel| Rust

FWIW the current firmware has fixed all my CANBUS issues (touchwood), haven't had to do a reset or fusepull since updating, nor any memory leaks or any other major issues.
Any news on how the next firmware version is coming? Really keen to get the iPod charging issue and the SD playback on reverse issues fixed, those are my 2 major bugbears at the moment :p
Also, who was it that said their auxin was right channel only? Mine does the same thing, but I had assumed the cable I used was dodgy... maybe not the case?MY10 Golf Mk6 103TDI DSG Candy White | Revo Stage 1 ECU Tune | 18" Talladegas | GTI Front/Rear/Exhaust | R LED Taillights | GTI Steering Wheel | VW Discover Media | Focal IFVW Front Speakers | Mk7 Climatronic Panel |

It is not a memory message, it just says the program monsun.exe had a critical error and must be ended.
Latest firmware I believe.
