Group Buy / EOI new generation DNS head units (RNS-510 alternative)
Yeahhhhh we north American folk could be SOL. Ascertain don't really have any protection against anything when it comes to this, I hope my unit is okay.
So far the one fault I see is the backlight for the buttons flicker a fair bit on initial boot, once the system is up they go out unless I have my lights on. Then they are on with solid red.
Mine doesn't do anything when I adjust it, wait wrong, if I put it from high to highest it gets brighter, but from high to low it deosnt change.
I had 1 glitch going from SD to Radio where no audio would come ffrom radio, reboot and it worked.
Went from SD to Radio one other time, radio channel static, said it was on my preset channel but it wasn't, hit the preset and the channel came in.
Bluetooth auto connects quick with my galaxy s4 i337m, however the audio streaming needs work, its not crisp and has almost a blown speaker sound of static when playing any track no matter what player I use on my phone. The unit needs to be at volume 20-25to hear anything, SD or radio, 10-15 Haven't tested any calls yet.
Other than that, no other real issues, will wait and see what a cold night & morning brings on.
Chill everyone, those outside Australia will be covered by Australian consumer law. Sandy as retailer is liable for the cost of returns and it's his job to get restitution from audio sources.
He has been very upfront about when he was going on his honeymoon. If he doesn't respond to these complaints within 14 days then it's a different story of course but it hasn't happened yet.
Re: LCD backlight, I did some 'playing' I do notice slight slight very little change from high to low when you select the brightness, its almost next to no change. The funny part is, when you select anything but high/highest and turn the headlights on, instead of the screen dimming, it brightens up. So its doing the reverse of what it should.
Re: Radio reception, now to me the radio reception isn't the best, not the worst bit definitely not the best. I have both antenna lines hooked up, and yet I still get static waves in & out on radio channels that sould be in crystal clear, especially when I am driving on the city that the radio channels are located. Anyone else experience this? The ST indicator flashes in and out so the radio is detecting signal loss at the moment that the static is heard on the radio. Both my antenna cables hooked up fine to the radio, with slight modification done to the housing of the one cable in the car, I can't see an adapter changing anything with this matter tho, not unless I have the antenna lines on backwards, which on not even sure is possible as they have notches in them I believe preventing such.
Its all good to be sitting in a stationary car in your driveway & play around with the unit but the real question is,... how would you rate it when driving in traffic?
Basic operating functions such as switching from SD to radio should work seamlessly, not require reboots. Volumes should not vary between inputs so drastically. RVC should appear every time when your gear stick is in "R". It should start up every morning for your daily commute to work, not 10 mins after you leave home.
Simple I know, but until someone starts driving around with this thing that is the real test.
Starting tomorrow I will be, its my daily commuter now, oh. One other thing, I don't even have the reverse camera installed. But as soon as I put the car on reverse, my audio is muted.
I drove around for an hour and a half tonight, testing the unit. So far I think I've reported all I had happen. The radio reception is 80%, had the no FM sound glitch from SD which needed a reboot, glitch where the radio was on a preset but really wasn't - just static, Bluetooth audio playback isn't the best, static and sounds distorted with a gain level increased 10% higher than other inputs, screen dimming isn't working correctly.
Think thats it so far, likely will have the white screen of frozen tomorrow morning but will have to see

There is a setting for that, might be in the secret menu.
Go to aux in.
Hold middle of screen on far left
Other menu comes up.
When the invoice didn't include GST I should have realized "ZX Audio" didn't actually exist except in Sandys head.
You only have to register for GST when your turnover exceeds $75,000 per year.
I fully understand that people are frustrated, and so would I if I was caught up in it. Unfortunately, it is a feature of pre-production units. The units are not listed on the Audiosources web site.
In hindsight, this should never have happened. It was a mistake for all parties concerned. I have worked in product development, and you never take orders for something that is still being developed, be it hardware or software, and worse when it is both. I don't believe that Sandy or Audiosources did this with the intention of ticking customers off. Sadly, this is what has happened. The unfortunate thing is that Sandy is not in a position to respond so whatever has happened, it is a little unfair.
It is frustrating, but it is what it is. The best thing to do is to wait until December 4, as this is when Sandy has said he will be back. No seller of something ever wants to have to refund money, and so, yes they will try and get you to hang in and persevere, particularly where it is a product that has been indicated as a product in development.

It is a case of waiting, hard as that might be.
As someone looking from the outside in, this is best advice you will ever get.
I've been caught up in similar stuff before, all you can do is wait. Getting angry does nothing but give you a headache.
Personally, having TWO units tied up in this Schnozzle, I think that the group buy should cancelled with all monies refunded until production is ready.
I do feel sorry for those who decided to jump in early, but that's the risk you run when a product isn't ready, and are being treated as glorified guinea pigs but sadly it's becoming the DSG (DQ700) of group buys.
I also feel sorry and mean no disrespect to Sandy as he's been caught up in this mess and been let down by the people at Audiosources.
Whilst I believe it has a lot of potential, I think we've all jumped the gun on this one. 6 months since the first post and 118 pages (at least on tapatalk) of frustration, delays and broken promises. Although I'll keep it in mind when starting my MBA next year of what not to do.
I will wait to hear Sandy's response before deciding whether or not to continue with the group buy.
