  • Group Buy / EOI new generation DNS head units (RNS-510 alternative)

Will the interface look similar to the ans series. I like the red and black theme. Matches nice with the vw red lights

    • Anyone upgrading from the ANS810 interested in selling me their unit?

Battery drain relates to devices that have an older CANBUS gateway installed. A Google here will tell you the exact part numbers but if you have the older gateway, the ANS is unable to disconnect from the battery and will continue to draw power even when the car is not running, thus draining the battery.

The DNS should be smarter because it has full CANBUS integration.

I believe that it only affected cars prior to 2007. The ANS thread has more info on this.

This link came up from a quick Google search: Battery Drain Issue - Canbus Test

                • Sandy,
Will you be giving the DNS a thorough work out prior to distribution?
I've waited this long already so would prefer you do all your checks and balances first.
I really hope audiosources come to the party with some extra goodies.

Yes, there are screenshots if you follow update links from the first post.

Both the ANS and DNS series can work with older CAN-Bus without battery drain. It is only the OEM RNS-510 that will drain older CAN-Bus gateways, and only after a certain firmware version. So the problem doesn't really lie in the CAN-Bus gateway itself, but backward compatibility isn't exactly high on the VW priority list.

Yes, I will test it as best I can and provide the demo video before distribution.

I believe this is only an issue with the OEM units (e.g. RCD/RNS510).

I understand that ANS units do not suffer from this issue. I stand to be corrected though.

Edit: oops, seems that Sandy has already answered this.

Thanks for the correction. I remember looking at this before I found this thread and must have for the various units muddled up. I know I spent some time working out if I needed a CANbus upgrade at the time.
