  • To all who will bother to care

I don't know if you can help me but here goes...the only reason I am interested in buying is as an upgrade and solution to my ****ty radio reception on my MFD2 installed in my MKV Golf. It came with the car as standard but I can't get AM reception. Everything else works fine on it.

I have checked all connections and they all seem fine and solid. Even the wires from the rear window (I believe this model uses the rear heater as the only antenna) seem fine.

I even removed the headunit and tried a wire/aerial direct to the connections...same result as with FAKRA connections attached.

I'm therefore starting to think the tuner within the head unit may be defective.

    Any thought?

p.s. I have already spent many hours trawling through various forums and posts and so far can't find an answer.

    Any help appreciated.

    • Forgot to ask

If I do purchase the DNS will there be issues still with the radio as I read aftermarket head units can issues with later VAG cars...compatibility issues if I remember correctly.

          • Normally FM rear screen, AM , roof top aerial. Try a longer aerial.

If you have to purchase these before even knowing what the finalized features are, I will have to withdraw as well.
I'll understand if you want to withdraw at this stage. Sorry about the confusion, but as I said a lot of this is just because I wanted to keep everyone up to date at every step. I was initially told the unit will have Android mirroring, even that it was 90% complete (this was over 3 months ago - I guess they're having technical issues with the last 10%). I definitely won't take so much confidence in early promises from the manager anymore, until I see concrete evidence before me.

Send me a PM if you want to confirm your withdrawal.

The missing part of the update is for the CAN-Bus, and without it I can't show MFD info and steering controls and the like. Apparently they're still doing some fixes on it but expect it to be finished before the end of this week. I do hope so because I am this close to yelling at the manager...

If anyone still wants to join the group buy at this stage, this extremely extended delay probably works in your favour. Just follow the instructions in the first post and PM me your details and which unit / accessories you want. Once I have a demo video up I will PM everyone on the list and close the group buy within a few days (to give people time to decide after seeing the video), but until then it remains open.

I'll keep my order in place unless you are forced to ship with unfinished software like you suggested was on the table. Obviously you're getting the run around and I appreciate the straight forward communication to us.

I guess I'd take the risk if I had some sort of understanding of the functionality they're looking to achieve with the Android mirroring. Will it mirror the phone display regardless of app, etc? Will the refresh rate be usable for streaming video and navigation? Is there any possibility they decide to give up on this feature all together? Lots of questions and no guarantees, but I'll sit tight for now.

                            Thanks, Sandy.

As I understand it, they can get the screen to mirror no problem, but controlling the phone with the unit seems to cause stability issues. It's always going to be a full mirror function regardless, not a partial one that only allows some apps to be run. However at this stage the mirroring function will be unlikely to be available on first release.

Got it, thanks. I will trust they will work it out then considering they are somewhat close to finishing. Just hope the software development remains a priority after we've received our units.
