That is the kind of VW attitude I have come to expect, so you know what - I will go elsewhere! I have owned several Jap cars from new - Daihatsu, Mazda, Subaru, Honda, and now also the Golf. The only two cars that have had any problems are the Subaru & the VW, but of the cars I've owned they're also the two I have had the most enjoyment from. I would not hesitate buying another Subaru or VW (if the pricing wasn't so ridiculous). How can they get away with a doubling of the dealer delivery. The quoted RRP should be increased by $2000 and the dealer delivery left at $2k.

That means if I buy the basic Tiguan for $34000 by the time I add on $4000 dealer delivery & $1650 stamp duty the onroad costs have already hit 16% of the cars value not even including licensing! Subaru here we come!

Yes, the Subaru cargo area is quite shallow, but a bit bigger than the old model. Looking at the pictures, the Tiguan's cargo area looks even smaller.

I took the Forester XT (manual) for a spin today, and to cut a long story short it's off my shopping list too.

The first main reason is the lack of cargo space (or in my case dog space). The actual size is okay, but the height (floor to ceiling) is too shallow - my two Labradors would literally hit their heads on the roof everytime we went over a bump. The main reason for the shallow boot appears to be that you get a full size alloy spare (stored under the floor). In the Honda CRV, which is my current dog carrier, the wheel is mounted on the tailgate, so the floor is quite a lot deeper.

The other reason is the suspension, for something with this amount of poke it is way too soft for my liking. The bonnet visibly jumps / dips, with every application of the accelerator or brakes. I would have expected the XT to get a firmer ride compared to the others, but clearly it's not the case.

Otherwise it's typically Subaru, the interior is a bit too "plastic", the engine is reasonably noisy, but not sporty sounding, and the whole thing feels a bit cheap compared to the only car that actually seems to meet my criteria, wait for it, the Skoda Octavia RS wagon.

I took the liberty of test driving the 1.8TFSI & RS (2.0 TFSI) today as well. The 1.8 surprised me with the amount of "early" torque on tap, and was nice enough, but the RS really surprised me with how good the whole package is. The seats are much more comfortable than the cheaper model, the car feels much more planted on the road and would definately be my pick. The engine is what I'm used to in the Golf GTI (or would be once I got it chipped), has a sporty note and likes to be driven, and there is masses of cargo space. The only real question is over resale values, but at the end of the day there will be huge depreciation on any new car purchase. The Skoda is very tempting.

            Park Assist

            Hi,

In the Tiguan options it says Park Assist (with RNS510), wondering why you need to get the RNS510 if you want Park Assist. As far as I know the RNS510 involvement with Park Assist is that the rear camera turns on when Park Assist is activated, but surely Park Assist would still function without RNS510.

i just wrote an angry email to my dealer as i was thinking of changing my purchase from Peugeot to this if i could get a good deal....but if i'm going to be forced to pay $4k dealer delivery the car is definitely off my shopping list

what dealer are you shopping with?

[edit] these delivery charges will be negotiable no sweat
just had someone quote 2495 or 2995

I’m in the market for a car and my wife has a 2006 Golf 2.0 TDI auto that's so nice to drive, so I wanted to get something VW.

Coincidently the motor show was on recently (Perth) and I saw a Tiguan. I thought it was what I wanted so I went to my dealer and ordered one. It should arrive towards the end of the year.

Now I'm starting to have concerns about it not having a DSG gearbox. That’s probably one of the nicest features that I like on my wife’s Golf.

I've read on the net that they used the standard tiptronic to give the Tiguan much greater towing capacity. I also read that they may release a front-wheel-drive version that will have DSG in 2009 ?

I'm already going to be waiting 'till the end of the year so I'm prepared to wait a bit longer for DSG. Does anybody know if VW is actually planning on doing this ???

It is my understanding that you can get all models with DSG, with only the 147TSI coming out exclusively with this gearbox at this stage (no manual option)

                    Are you sure ?????????

                    I think it's a plain standard torque-converter automatic.

Standard 6 speed Tiptronic (automatic) only. No DSG in any Tiguan anywhere in the world at this stage.

FWD will be available in 1.4TSI only from 2009 in the UK and South Africa. No idea what is coming to Australia.

147TSI available in manual in the UK and South Africa in RHD, so why not here .......

Might have to opt for a TDI manual instead.....

There is an R line Tiguan coming to world markets from 2009 as well..... no idea on engine specs yet though..

                        I've made a decision.

Because the Tiguan doesn't have DSG, I've decided to purchase a Skoda Octavia Elegance (2.0TDI with DSG). My car has to be my car as well as the family's main vehicle so I hope I've made the right choice.

Should have it by the end of the week. Hope I don't regret this...

quote on Tiguan and TSI (fleet discount...)

I got a quote for Tiguan and Golf TSI, and noticed that the Tiguan does not attract a "Fleet discount" (for novated lease).

When asked, the salesman replied "...Unfortunately there is no fleet discount for the Tiguan YET!! (Due to the lack of stock available at present). This may change by the time the petrol models land but no guarantees., fingers crossed."

has anyone had any similar experience?

                          regards

Yes, I got a quote and a provisional booking on a Silver TDI manual with the comfort package and fog lights for delivery in June. It includes $3177 dealer delivery and no discount for leasing.

Most of the 1st batch have been presold and the next batch will be ready for delivery 18 weeks later. If you don't preorder then you're not likely to get a car untill the end of the year. If you want anything specific you will only make it into the 2nd batch as the 1st batch have all be pre-ordered and you have to take the closest they to what you want.

VW on the Sunshine Coast has about 4 still left from their 1st allocation.

Also it is provisional on you seeing the car and actually liking it. For me the rear cargo space will be the decider.....

Haven't you seen one in the flesh? There isn't much cargo space - if you intend to use the back seats at the same time.
