I agree regarding the dealer delivery. I've bought a fair few new cars over the past several years and have allways aimed at the RRP price as being the drive away price as an absolute maximum. With my golf I bought an 07 model in August 06 for $1000 under the RRP including dealer delivery, onroad costs, $900 list price worth of accessories and a full tank of diesel. From memory it was about 8K off the listed drive away price. However as I wasnt ready to play the game then and there without seeing the car in the flesh I didnt push on the price. I did get the distinct impression they are not willing to discount bugger all at this stage - so we will see !

yes, on-road. however, i received some sad news today. the 147tsi won't be available till the end of the year. might have to change to 125tsi or 103tdi which dealer says will be available june-july

yes, they're saying to put orders in now 'coz there could be a wait, from what i've been told, looks like its true. might have to ask for the deposit back.

I've been told May 25th is launch date for the TDI Tiguan so that is still 2 months away not the few weeks off dealers are quoting. Hopefully I can wait that long.
Still have yet to test drive the Forester XT. Drove the Rav4 SX6 with the "200 killer wasps" - nice to drive HEAPS of go just off idle !! Very smooth.

Just don't try to take a corner with the RAV. None of the magazine reviews had anything nice to say about its handling capabilities .... (ie. it doesn't have any....). All liked its go though.

I suspect both the Forrester and Tiguan will be much better handlers.

            Also, some bad news .....

Guy is not positive about the ECU update possibilities for the 125kw Tiguan. Apparently it will have a new ECU that is at the moment impossible to chip..... (same as the BMW 335i) Nobody has been able to crack it in 15 months to date. APR in the USA could potentially do it, but they have no car with that engine in the USA and sees no benefit in spending that amount of money on research at the moment.

Guy will confirm when he sees 1 in OZ and thats only in August/September.

So if you want a quick, manual, small SUV soon, get a Forrester XT.....

Did'nt go flying around any corners in the RAV as it was raining but accelleration was quite impressive in the wet conditions. Still a week wait to test the XT. Working from the specs in the brochure the XT man will be pulling quite a few revs at 100klm\hr 2650RPM in fact. The auto should be around 2300 if the converter locks up.

Tiguan 2.0 TDI is now commonrail as opposed to the golfs PD system. Is this good or bad ? The hp and torque specs are the same at 103/320.

I hadnt noticed this prior to seeing it on the extreemely brief 1 page flyer the dealers are handing out.

The local dealer in Perth now has an XT manual on the showroom floor. He's been hassling me to come in for a test drive on Saturday. Might go for a looksee. Only problem is I know I'll want one if I drive it.

If you do go for a test drive in the XT be interested in your impressions as there are none here yet. As mentioned above it seems as though the manual will be revving quite high in 5th at 100klm\hr.

                      2650r/min @ 100km is not bad actually.

My car revs at 2700r/min @ 100km/h in 5th and then only uses 6.1l/100km. Not even noisy at that speed. Makes for really effortless overtaking....

The really good point is that max torque on the XT is available at 2800r/min which means will it overtake beautfully in 5th gear.

my family's pretty interested in the tiguan but we have members that are manual-retarded/driving retarded and i'm a p-plater so no petrol turbos.

the new audi a4 runs commonrail, and i thought that would have been the first car in aus from VAG to run commonrail..?

apparantly - from the german volkswagen website, there's no dsg available for the 125kw tdi..

oh.. my uncle has a 1 gen old forester xt. we take it down to the snowy mountains pretty often and he gets some pretty ordinary fuel consumption figures cause of the short gearing..

as in he wishes it had a tall cruising gear

when are subaru going to realise we are in 2008 and put a decent auto in the Forester instead of sticking with the lame ass 4 speeder.. At least they could stick in the 5spd auto out of the Liberty.. / Outback.

I owned a 2.5l Impreza (non-turbo) before the Golf and in top gear you'd be pulling about 2850rpm at 100km/h. I guess they should be thinking about whacking an extra gear on there in this day & age.

The new XT, according to the quoted figures, is about 1sec slower to 100km/h compared to the outgoing model, but only weighs about 30kg more, so maybe they have changed the gearing for better fuel economy?

Had a talk with both VW and Subaru here in Brisbane today. (They are next to each other.)

                                VW.....
$3995 dealer delivery is true across all of Australia. There is no negotiation, their attitude is take it or leave it..... The salesguy told me to go somehwere else if I'm not happy. VW needs to seriously work on their dealers and their pricing structures as well as their model specifications.

You also cannot choose your options for 12months. VWA has ordered the next 12 months cars already and has specced them as they saw fit. When you want one with specific options they will try to match it, but if your selection is not available (in a pre-ordered car) you will have to wait 12months.......

                                Subaru ....
                                $1995 dealer delivery... negotiable.....
Any option you want, delivery within 2 months with your specifications.
Looks good, interior plastics not too VW standards but not bad. Boot space is bad....

Arranged a test drive for early next week. (... and the salesguy told me where to take it to have it chipped...)
