Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • gearboxes are a real feat of engineering aren't they, so complicated to look at this bunch of gears yet they work so harmoniously.. until Lito drops the clutch

    • Alright so it's been a while since I've posted any updates. As some of you may know the car has been off the road for the past month or so , I messed up the brake install.. Well not so much the install as the bleading process. I had a hell of a time trying to blead the system and get a decent pedal feel. I ended up rounding the brand new blead screws I got for the front calipers, buying brand new oem rear calipers (don't ask) and finally stripping one of the blead screw threads in the master cylinder. I gave up and decided to take it to Jmac to finish the brakes, only thing is I had to source new blead screw for the front calipers, easier said than done. If anyone needs to know the blead screws for the r32 front calipers are m7x1.0. Shipping from uk took forever but they finally arrived!!

      Looks like they'll fit

I also got some great news about my gearbox! After delays because of parts supply, it's almost back together! Neat gearboxes down in Adelaide look like they do some awesome work!

Oh and I bought some high quality studs, locking nuts, Nissan turbo gaskets and Nissan t25 locking tabs. Will put all this in the next time my turbo bolts come loose.

So yeah I haven't forgotten about her, haha

Dude, so fustrating! Don't think I'll be going near them ever again lol. Thought I had it so many times and then turn the engine on and bam, pedal to the floor
Oh and if all VAGs in Brisbane could stop breaking so Jmac can fix my car that'd be great, cheers.

                    • Well it's back new gearbox feels amazing, so smooth and the wavetrak is completely transparent when driving around normally. Haven't had a chance to test it out too much yet, gotta bed these brakes in. Jmac is the man!!

                      • Nice! How's the gearbox when cold? What oil have you got in it?

                        Dyno numbers?

Hey mate, new gearbox is awesome!! Even stone cold the things shifts smooth as butter. I think it's got redline something-or-other atm, Jmac knows what's in there. Still on base file unfortunately, things keep on getting in the way of doing the final tune, though it spins all the way to 110km/hr now that the hardware is sorted, even with the LSD. I don't think a 1/4 mile/ dyno sheet is too far away. Just got an r32 front sway bar too so hopefully my drive shafts will stop being such good friends with my stock sway bar

Plastidip has since been removed, the brake dust was impossible to clean off them
