  • Going to get a Multivan - QLD - Few Questions

Hi guys I m on the Goldcoast and wifey has given the green light to look this week at changing my 10yo 4WD for a Multivan.

since m only going to do short trip/school run I m a bit worry of the diesel filter stuff and will go for the TSI350 Comfortline with electric doors and the multifunction table, reverse camera ( I cannot afford the Highline)

    - I do not have to much space on my carport as it is enclosed with a garage door, because of the needed clearance I would have to park sideway to be able to open tailgate, is it possible to order or retrofit the tailgate with barndoors ?
    - I ve checked second hand but most do not have the electric doors and the multifunction table, reverse camera,it is something the can be retrofitted ?

    - it looks like the Multivan is sold by the Commercial side of VW, what type of discount can I expect ( 10% seem usual for a normal car but I am not sure if it s something that can get done with commercial dealers), what onroad cost are reasonable in QLD ?

    - is it worth it to use a car broker ?
    - should I wait end of June FY ?

    - in term of finance, should I look at using finance (something like 7%) or use money that is in my house mortgage offset ( 5%) ?

Thanks a lot guys for your help

TSI350 is a lovely Mutlivan, in my opinion the best of all of them available in Aus. Pity it does not come with 4Motion

Barn doors not a retro-fit option due to the hinges needing to be done in factory I believe and not an option on the multivans. Easy 10% discount to be had through either a broker or through your company's corporate discount (if they have).

finance is 7% over 5 years, house is 5% over 25 years, in the long run shorter term finance is better I have found, but get an accountant to advise you.

I'd also skip the electric doors, we had no problem with manual doors, and less to break down the track ....

The TSI 350 won't disappoint you, especially if you do short trips, but the fuel economy will suffer. The VW finance is ok, and as Sharkie said the short term finance is better, especially if you plan on upgrading with a new model later. I always shop around and then go to my local dealer to get the price matched, would also try the car broker especially if it doesn't cost anything to get a quote.

Maybe all the car brokers I have tried were crap, but I always negotiated better prices than they could.

I ve seen a highline tsi350 MY2014 for sale at a good price on the web but with 5000km, it should be a demonstrator I guess, 5000km is quite a lot of very short trips ,

IMO, it's better to keep the car finance separate from your mortgage if you changing the cars before you pay them of.
There should be a new T6 in 2016, so may have the urge to upgrade.

I would imagine that if you are ordering a vehicle new from a dealer and that vehicle is to be built for you ex factory the list of extras is pretty well endless I suppose it will depend on how deep your pockets are . Once a van is already here at a dealers then there are some options that dealers can fit but the price will probably be horrendous , I retrofitted factory cruise control to both our new T5's myself and it was less than $200 for the part and fitting was a couple of hours all I had to pay for was coding , dealer price is around $1200 I believe . So lots of "upgrades can be added as long as you are willing to spend some time sourcing the right compatible parts .

And a bloody good job you did too, Sunny!! Super impressed... I think Sharkie is suggesting the TSI350 does not come with 4 motion?? (I don't know as did not chase that engine)...mine is the TDI400 which can definitely be had with 4 motion but has to be factory built, so plan on min 3-4 month wait...

Pretty much everything can be bought and fitted after market, apart from structural elements...Factory/dealer options can be quite cost prohibitive.

As a guide I had the premium bluetooth and the Multifunction Display (MFD) option installed at the factory, but bought the Sat Nav (RNS510) and genuine RVS camera from ebay (check the 1st sticky on that), and as above Sunny is installing and Sharkie has offered to code. I would have saved over $1,500 on those two items from the dealer quote (including ensuring above maestros are adequately compensated)....would have been over $2,000 if I did not go genuine RVS Cam.

The genuine RVS camera is a pretty impressive unit that hooks into the steering wheel and ir sensors to show a moving wheel path and some other stuff, but is quite expensive (even aftermarket). I understand 3rd party cameras are available for a very low comparative cost and would be the go if you can stand not having the gold plating bling and just need a good camera.

The RVS Camera is a little fiddly to install, and IMO should be done by a qualified vehicle trimer on a Multi.... I can highly recommend Sunny if you are looking for some assistance.....get a sunroof put in while he is at it!!! It will also need coding to work.

                          Nice!

And if you need it to go a bit faster still (already being the fastest stock Multivan around) have a look here ..

by the way concerning Oettinger I see the torque is get to 294 lb ft (400 Nm) @ 2600 - 4000/rpm , do they still achieve the normal torque ( 258 ) from 1,500 rpm ? 250hp LOL, 200hp is already quite crazy on a van
