Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Do I need anything else and is the Lithuanian on ebay as safe as anyone else?

How easy was the 8sensor system to install? Did you do it yourself or did an installer do it instead? If so, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to install?

Arrived today, fitted in about 10 minutes. Quick drive around (tip: if the maps dont appear, set the date?) and it looks very nice.

Easiest install I have ever done. Bluetooth and VCDS on their way, should be all done by the end of next week.

I have fitted a RCD510 into my ED25 Multivan, no options available with this little gem.... RCD510 works a treat, brought a 9W7 BT kit from Blluewagen ... Looks to be a daunting job? Has any one done one? Where does the control box go? I have plugged it in to try it and all works fine just need a little coding for the MFD... Running an iPhone 3S works great... BT music streaming works. Can't seem to find anywhere on the forums on how the install goes?.. Where does the control box go? Do I need some kind of a mount for the box? This is the link for my kit all is there and as I said works... But how, where and what extra's will I need for mounting the foam box the module comes in.....? it has small Velcro on it....help!

Dmud, just mount the unit inside the dash somewhere with zip ties
Mount it onto something solid, and perhaps to make it easier remove the glove box first
The BT unit doesn't have to be out front, it will still work hidden away inside

Small problem with my mdi. Its not playing audio either by the aux in or from the iPod, I can see and select tracks on through the rns 510 from the iPod but get no audio.

I think the iPod was working before I played with the VCDS but I'm not 100% sure.

Otherwise everything seems OK - the Bluetooth works fine, mfi fully functional....

Could someone post their how to for coding the mdi, mfi, Bluetooth and rns510 for the t5.2

Is it just me ? but doesn,t it appear to anyone else that the advent of all this new technology is just getting a tad out of control ? having to use a computer to tell a car that a component has to be set up a certain way is just beyond me . I have experienced this in my line of work I had a customer whose Peugot sunroof motor had failed , he purchased a new motor which took me all of 3 minutes to install . But the sunroof would not work until the car was taken to a Peugot dealer to be attached to something called "Planet Peugot" this computer then told the car that a new motor was installed and it then could work with the rest of the car . Its a bit like children who sometimes need to have it explained to them on the correct way to interact with other kids /so childish !!! I was told by a VW tech that because of Can Bus systems some times a component will fail and it will in turn take out several other non related components . All very confusing to an old school bloke like me , I just like stuff that you install yourself and it works straight away the way it was designed to ,without arguing with an onboard computer , or worse causing that computer to have a major fit !!! .

and finally, activated Video in Motion to enable watching DVDs while on the move .... (not for the driver obviously) Last edited by Sharkie; Today at 07:57 PM.
Yeh sure you are not watching the video , I to am guilty as the head units I have in all three of our vans have a simple touch screen unit that allows you to watch the video or just tap the screen to make it go to a screen saver real handy with mr plod around . Naturally back seat passengers in our family van can still see the video .

Just an easy way to mark the old useful thread, so it can be put in as a link in one of the stickies. That's all.

Fitting the stuff is a no brainer coding the van well don't start me on that one . I am sure there are others who will fit and go by the book me well I'm an school bloke if theres a will there is a way . Our latest T5 has a Chinese head unit with parking sensors and rear camera Digital TV Bluetooth Touch screen AM FM plays DVD's CD's Mp3 etc IPod connection and USB connection SD card slot and can copy CDs as well plus built in GPS with the very latest maps not the outdated 4 year old stuff VW sell in their top of the range cars . Our unit can also access the internet via Sim data card on the go can also integrate with Multi function steering wheel and instrument cluster data if fitted in the van , all for the paltry price of $450 Look the install of any of the factory parts should be quite straight forward there are plenty of VW Forum memebers who will enlighten you on any problems to look out for , me I just avoid the norm and think outside the norm for a result .

So what head unit is it you used? Sounds way better than the Zanec unit in my van that I paid way too much for.
