Note: the aftermarket RNS510 here as commonly found on Ebay, displays the outline of a car in the Park Distance Control screen. The factory fitted RNS510 displays the outline of a Multivan. This is the only difference found so far.

    Summary:

    1. So, for less than $500 can you fit a VW OEM RCD510 radio, colour touchscreen, 6 CD shuttle & SD Card functions that fully integrates with the Climate Control, Park Distance Control & factory fitted Bluetooth.

    2. So, for about $1000 can you fit a VW OEM RNS510 radio, SatNav, colour touchscreen, DVD Player & SD Card functions that fully integrates with the Climate Control, Park Distance Control & factory fitted Bluetooth as well as the MFD display.
will option 2 work if you have a multifuntion wheel but with no blue tooth. can you install blue tooth seperatly

RNS510 will certainly work without the factory fitted bluetooth. If you have the MF steering wheel you will still have full MFD and OPS integration.

In fact the RNS510 will work without the MF steering wheel as well. I believe you then lose the MFD integration though, but all functions of the RNS510 can be accessed on its touch screen and buttons. It will still show the OPS integration.

I also believe you can retrofit the Bluetooth as well, but have not tried that.

Having just taken delivery of my mv with surprise factory fitted blutooth, I thoroughly advise getting it. It,s so far the feature I love the most having never had a blutooth hands free in a car before it is totally amazing to use, clear as a bell and fixed the terrible 3 reception I normally get.

Unless you have some form of phone coupler to increase signal strength I'm not sure a bluetooth device will actually improve phone reception although it will bypass the internal phone speaker. Or does the VW system actually have a form of signal coupling as well?

I don't know the technical term for it but the premium blutooth borrows the SIM form the phone, thats what it explains in the manual. IE there must be an integrated antenna in it!

So what features can you use? As I have not had time to even sit in my van yet I don't know what to expect from what I have... Perhaps I'll wait until then for rest of my questions

After purchasing rns510 what other costs need to be accounted for? I can install the HU but is there extra wiring needed? How about the coding etc who do you see for that and at what cost?

I beleive that Sharkie mentioned in the first few posts that it was plug and play. Some units need additional coding for the steering wheel controls to function but that's all. Additional info is in Audio section.

Sent you a PM Foxpuppet .... but for all, RNS510 coding requirements seems to be a bit of a lucky dip .... My Tiguan did not need it, but the Multivan needed it. Any dealer can do it and most VW specialist mechs as well as the odd forum member. Pricing differs .... depending on who it is.

Also FYI, the 7FO models will have the outline of a Van in the OPC display, whereas the cheaper "car" models feature a Jetta. No difference to the performance of the unit. Worht saving almost half I think .....

PS: You buy the prefacelift 1 yet Transporter?

After seeing all that I should have spent the extra 19k to get a new T5.2 with all that functinality! Damn I am jealous!

Anyone got a 510 to work in a 09 Multi? I want Bluetooth for iphone calls and connectivity for the music on the phone.

Since u guys mentioned something about T5GP and T5.2 etc model number, what does that mean? And what category would my car fall into?

                            Cheers
RNS510 has SatNav and DVD player. Also have a 30GB Hard drive for storing music.

RNS510 (and RCD510) can be fitted as detailed in this thread to all Multivans and Transporters post June 2010. So will be fine for your MV.

T5GP and T5.2 refers to the facelifted T5 Transporters and Multivans (and Caravelles) post June 2010.

Thanks a lot for your help. So mine should be T5.2 as it is a 2012 model? And by the way what would be the difference between version B version C and all that?

I saw the ebay seller listed in this thread has the bluetooth kit for sale as well. Has anyone done installing the bluetooth kit as well along with the RNS510 or RCD510?

                              Thanks

I have also noticed that some of the RNS510 are in different shape to each other as pictured on ebay
