    OEM RCD510

Good news is that the RCD510 OEM radio fully integrates with the T5.2. It is not an option from VW, but if you can get hold of 1 (about $450 on Ebay), its a 10min install job, did mine this morning. It integrates fully with the factory fitted Bluetooth, Climate Control and Optical Parking System. This is a real value for money proposition .....

Make sure you source a GPS aerial for the RNS if you're testing it out in the T5GP.

Finally got around to it ....

      OEM RNS510 - SATNAV

Even Better news is that the RNS510 OEM radio non-factory fitted also fully integrates with the T5.2 Multivans. It is an option from VW for $3950, but if you can get hold of 1 (about $1000 on Ebay), its a 10min install job, did mine today. It integrates fully with the factory fitted Bluetooth, Climate Control and Optical Parking System. This is a the best value for money proposition .....

      RNS510 - Media Integration

The only thing I still need to do is use VCDS to code the display on the MFD. Will do that this week and update .....

No issues or glitches. It was a 10min plug and play job. I'd be saying thats a marketing ploy from VWA to discourage customers from doing this .....

The only "issue" I have is the fact that I need to code the system using VCDS for the MFD to work. And thats pretty much standard for any retrofit RNS510, private or dealer.

Hmm - great to hear it's working excellent news.

I doubt it's a marketing ploy - they sell the RNS510 as an accessory through spare parts as an after fit item for most models and at the end of the day they're just hurting themselves by losing part sales (we've been fitting Pioneer units)

How is the display on a sunny day on the RNS510? I had a Pioneer Avic 900bt in my Transporter. On a sunny day, you could not read the screen at all.
The BT on Avic was hit and miss when connecting to my iphone. Sometimes it would connect, other times it wouldn't.
            I don't recommend the Pioneer system in a T5.

Sharky did you allready have the parking sensors installed? or did you install the?, I am wondering if I can put some parking sensors in my T5 duel Cab when I get it in a week or 2.

The display is actually very good in sunlight. I removed the RNS510 from the Tiguan. In the Tiguan I had a AVC9000 SatNav before and it had severe sunlight display issues. Fitting the RNS510 in the Tig had no such problems and now in the Van neither.

The new Multivans has the park sensors and OPC fitted as standard, but there are VW OEM kits on Ebay that includes everything you may need. Search for RNS510 and the OPCs pop up as well.

Sorry for asking, but, what is an OPC?
Its the Optical Park Control/System ... something ..... you need more than just sensors, you need the OPC unit and a CANBUS cable to connect to the rest of the electronics. Those Ebay kits have it all, did a quick search and did not see any though atm.

EDIT: Turns out its OPS not OPC. Found a link http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VW-OPS-optica...item3f03c084e0

With the help of Guy, got the RNS510 coded today using VCDS.

MFD now fully integrates with the RNS510

Note: the aftermarket RNS510 here as commonly found on Ebay, displays the outline of a car in the Park Distance Control screen. The factory fitted RNS510 displays the outline of a Multivan. This is the only difference found so far.

                    Summary:

                    1. So, for less than $500 can you fit a VW OEM RCD510 radio, colour touchscreen, 6 CD shuttle & SD Card functions that fully integrates with the Climate Control, Park Distance Control & factory fitted Bluetooth.

                    2. So, for about $1000 can you fit a VW OEM RNS510 radio, SatNav, colour touchscreen, DVD Player & SD Card functions that fully integrates with the Climate Control, Park Distance Control & factory fitted Bluetooth as well as the MFD display.

                      Hey Sharkie,

The car being displayed and not a van is probably a firmware thing. Found this old post on a GTi forum.

                      Volkswagen RNS 510 Firmware version 2700 / 2702 / 2704 / 2706 / 2708 Announcement

                      2700 – VW Cars
                      2702 – Toureg
                      2704 – Skoda Columbus
                      2706 – T5 Transporter
                      2708 – T5 Multivan

I have a new Multi on order myself and plan to retro fit a RNS510. The unit I bought has FW 2720 which I am guessing is newer and for cars. Just have to track down latest firmware for RNS510 in Multi.

Wonder if you guys could offer some advise on how to get the plastic surround off to get access to the screws,

Your posts have been a massive help.

                          thanks guys.

                            Getting the top tray off

The tray on the top lifts off, pull gently upwards on the edge closest to the window and it all comes off. This will expose 2 hex screws. Undo these and the whole facia comes off. Remember to pull gently but steadily. Then undo the hex screws holding the radio in and lift it clear. Unplug the cables and then redo all in reverse. Takes less than 10mins.

I found its easiest to pull near the 2 ridges that run lengthwise.

Note: when you switch on the radio 1st time, it will ask for the security code before allowing you to use it.

Is this the model that has the squared off corners instead of the rounded corners which can/may fit into a 2009 T5?
If so, where can I get one, or more importantly, would it integrate into my Caravelle to replace an RCD200?
