The RSR's are a 'street' (non- R spec) semi in the same mould as AD08R yoko's, falken RT615K, hankook RS3 and achilles 123S. Alot of guys use RSR's at the hillclimbs because they have lots of grip out of the box cold. They're a cut above EVO's. Like other street semi's they will apparently grease out quickly compared to proper R spec semi's on the track. I've read reviews on S2000 forums of RSR's that say don't overdo it on your warm up laps because of this and they will hang in longer. My yoko's did this on a hillclimb practice day where I was just cycling around and around and they went to mush. They'll be my next tyre because reviews put them on par with the advans, lots of people doing the same thing as me swear by them and they are always a good price which can't be said for the yoko's.
I'd be really interested what your 16 X 7's weigh with and without tyres??

      Hoyhoy.

Well folks, there's another up level to the 595RS-R & it's the 595RS-RR.
No 16's, but there is a 215/40/17 & I don't know if their available here.
      Hooroo.

Yeah from what I can gather the ADO8R is the very best street semi you could get. It may have superior build quality and hold its performance longer than RSR's after lots of heat cycles, and not tear itself up if not scrubbed correctly but initially at least the RSR's and RS-3 are meant to be right with it at least in the dry and a hell of a lot cheaper.
For R specs, toyo has followed federals lead and bunged an R on the end to make an R888R and they do a 16'' too. I was told they'd have a 205 but the site still lists 225/45 as the narrowest.

Thanks Fellas, I got the tyres fitted up today and grabbed some new wheel bolts too. Turns out the offset of these was enough to rub on the caliber bracket slightly so I had to grind that down a couple mm to suit. Alternatively a 5mm spacer would give heaps of clearance.

There were other options when looking at these tyres but for the pricing, I think these should be good bang for buck, although time will tell. I'm pretty happy with the look, definitely an adjustment to look at over the 17" with a lower profile tyre verses now having a smaller rim with the taller sidewall, making the rims look smaller again. One plus is it makes the brakes look bigger then what they are.

Cant wait for the HL's coming up to see how they perform. I'll get some better photos in the coming days, I did get a couple tonight but they're pretty ordinary. Will report back with how they feel after a few days, still wearing off the sticky residue the stickers left behind for now

              Few pics as promised

Already noticed the ride improvement with the smaller wheels and taller profile tyres. Handling wise the difference so far feels day and night. Theres a few good corners behind my work that you can take at some decent speed. With the old gear the car felt very slow to react, very tippy and as though another few kph would be enough for it to start understeering badly. It now feels composed and holds speed A LOT better. Thats not to say the stock suspension is up to scratch and won't get replaced, because it definitely will, but I'm really surprised at the difference the wheels and tyres alone have made so far.

The track will be a better test next weekend and should have a few hundred more kms on them before then. Counting down the days

The rims themselves are 13.7 LBS so 6.2kg each. Haven't yet weighed with tyres on but I will when I remove the wheels next

The RPF01's tend to look smaller too because of the stepped lip and inner rim profile.
                    The 19's I have look like 17 or 18".

Seems like you noticed the much lighter steering and better turn in like I found.

Agreed. At a first look I think most would think that they're 15's. Plus the taller side wall tyres contributes to the smaller rim look.

So after a last minute decision, I went to downshifts happy laps at QR this morning. Went with a group of mates with a variety of cars. It was really good to size up my car against some of the bigger, more powerful, more expensive cars. Also wanted to give the new brakes and tyres a proper go before next weekends happy laps so I know what to expect.

All in all I was pretty stoked with how the polo performed. I must've lined up 20+ cars, varying from SS Commodores, WRX's, XR5 Turbos, new opel astra turbo's, various honda's, few jap RWD's, even a couple other VW's and the polo held its own very well.

Think the brakes will take a few days to return back to optimal performance after they got a lot of heat into them today, but come next weekend the polo will be ready for some more happy laps, this time at lakeside.

Which is the biggest drama with it.

                            Not a proper track day.

                              Thanks mate!

Yup, as Gav said, was only happy laps so not helmet required/allowed.
