  • My new car in Aug 07 had 4 x conts and 1 x Dunlop Sport Max as the spare! I'm guessing the dealer did something odd.

    • hey guys.

my contis are on their last legs so got some good quotes on some kuhmo ku31's but cant decide whether or not to stay with 205/45's or get the 205/50's. I know its not much of a change but are there any negatives?

Overall good tyre, but I only drove on them for 500kms, as I am the new owner of this car.

I still have brand new Kuhmos on the car though, they have been rotated to the back, they seem good, handling is good, but I do need new control arm bushes, so maybe better to report back once they are done.

Thoughts on new tyre - My contis were pretty much dead when I changed them so bit hard to compare. The kuhmos definitely seem quieter in most situations and grip wise very happy for the price. Compared to the contis they seem much more progressive and give you plenty of warning when reaching their limits and sidewall does seem better and dose not look flat when parked. In the wet id have to say very similar to my previous ones which themselves I found excellent, overall they are still improving, as not fully run in yet, but very happy.

            • I've got the KU31's as well. Now done about 6000kms on them.

I'm sure there are better tyres out there, but pretty impressive for the price.

A while ago I thought I would replace the front 2 as my traction when cornering was poor. After putting in the front brace, I've a new respect for how good the tyres can be (again for the price). Think they won't last long on the front, but thats more to do with how I drive than anything...

Thoughts? - Grippy, not squealy though. Road noise is above average. Wet traction is not great. Paid $175 a corner so cant complain too much.

                      • Looking for some feedback on the tyres im running at the moment.

Purchased the car (07 polo club) and it was fitted with 17s wrapped in Pirelli Dragons.

Seem nice to me, although i havent really pushed the car as im still learning it. Am surprised at how well it holds on and how direct you can be with the steering.

Anyone had these tyres before or heard much about them?

                        Cheers

                        • Tyre pressure is important yet i haven't seen any listed

                          Wheels: 17 x 7.5 offset 35 RS Replica
                          Tyres : Bridgestone Potenza Re001 205x40x17
Press: 35-38 psi all round, bout 15000kms

Evenly wear at 38psi all round but fairly rough ride, good steering respond & straight line tracking even under brake, both dry & wet. 35psi give good comfort ride but some how more tram lining but better grip & less bump steer, and faster wear on shoulder may due to stretch fit. Confident feel up to 6/10 then start to give way on track. On the street at relax pace reasonable noise level, above average grip, much better than 16" oem conti's. But goddarn, the rims are hitting the kerb, not the tyres lol

Thoughts on New Tyre - im bloody happy! only done 100km so tyres still new and shiny. so far a slightly firmer ride. Turnin and grip are better than the stock continetals. but it rained yesterday and road was wet, found traction off line crap, but once rolling the tyre does pretty good at maintaining grip in wet through corners, but not as good in wet as the conti.

will report back after i have done a few more kms.

UPDATE - prob 1000km since getting new tyres. im very very happy with them in the corners. grip is brilliant in dry in all conditions. wet grip is not good off line, but good once rolling. braking distance seems to have reduced too. traction control does less work off the line too. the only negative thing i have to say about them is that they are noisy - rolling noise at cruise speed. the contis were never like that.

                            • Hey Guys,

The time has come to look into tyres...
I was thinking of getting Conti's again, but maybe a change would be good.
I am a sucker for good looking tread pattern, so have narrowed it down to:

                              Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001's $230
                              Goodyear Eagel F1's $230
                              Marangoni Aeta Linea's... $170

I love the Goodyears, but I don't think its worth the extra $60 per corner....
All of the tyres seem to have good reviews here, and on the net, with the Goodyears and Bridgestones winning various awards.

I guess I am just putting it out there to see if there are any 11th hour pro's and con's that will sway me.
I don't do track work either, just spirited driving... so not too concerned with lifespan (40,000km outta my Conti's).

                              Any takers?

                              Thanks,

                              • Just had my 5th set of tyres put on few weekends a go, currently on 147,000. I again got Michelin Preceda 2's $250 a tyre. I've never really bothered looking at anything else, they are expensive but they get the job done every time. And in the wet at the moment I'm not sliding around at all, even when pushing it through some fun corners around home.

I guess my previous set of PP2's got bout 30,000km, I was starting to wear the markers down ... oops
