  • Car - 06 Polo GTI
    Rim Size - 16x6.5
New Tire - Dunlop SP Sport Maxx
    Tire Size - 205/45/16
Tire Replaced - Contis (original?) on back, Conti Premium Contact on front
    Km's On new Tire - 400 km
Thoughts on New Tire - I bought the car with the mismatched Contis with only a little tread left. I've only got limited km's on the new tires, but they seem firmer and much more confident especially in the wet. Never tried the Contis new though. Will update after a few thousand km's. A few reviews suggested these tires are noisy but I have not had a problem.

p.s. I got them at the goodyear 4 for 3 pricing scheme, they couldn't get the F1's in stock in time so Goodyear Aus approved these "off sale list" tires.

Ha, I have the exact same thing happening - I get them fitted next week or something.

New Tire - Federal 595 RSR
        Tire Size - 205/45/16
Tire Replaced - Continental ContactSport 2
        Km's On new Tire - 200 km
        Thoughts on New Tire -

In the wet, capability of this RSR is still a notch down compared to Contis and Vredestein Sportrac. That’s not really a bad thing because personally I rated these two as the best in the wet, better than F1 GSD3 and ST115 which are also ultra performance tyres mind you. For semi slick, it’s darn good indeed. Where the R888 will struggle at 60 kmh, this RSR can still cruise 110-140 kmh without much drama on the wet.

And when the road surface became 80% dry, on the way back home, I started teasing the RSR through a sequence of left-right-left corners from Glenmarie towards Jalan Kemajuan Subang and from there to Federal Highway entrance. For street legal, it’s the best I’ve experience yet! Lateral grip is just phenomenally brilliant and never once felt overcooked. And if you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll know Polo doesn’t have clean, direct, and positive steering feel but with the RSR I’m amazed it managed to mask this problem nicely. At this point, some may ask if it’s better than AD07. This though I couldn’t answer specifically because I haven’t used one but I do note that AD07 is more skittish in the wet than the RSR.

Road noise is quite well controlled just like Contis but not as serene as the ST115 but I’m sure it’ll get noisier like lorry after sometime. Given that its sidewall is pretty stiff, I’ll be toning down the pressure to 33 front and 32 rear (cold).

Thoughts on New Tire - Fantastic grip, quiet compared to the Maxx, no tramlining, braking distance seems better, obviously can't comment on wear. This tyre seems ideal for small go hard front wheel drive cars.

Thoughts on new tyre - Car doesn't pull left anymore, nice and smooth and quiet on the highway. MUCH quieter on b-grade bitumen. Haven't tested the adhesion limits yet, but very happy thus far.
Well, after 26,000 kms on 'em, they were a great tyre. Quiet, sticky, and great in the wet. Only gripe - bloody stiff in the sidewall. Awesome street tyre.

Thoughts on new tyre - Not a clue; but they are just a little harder wearing, with a treadwear rating of 240 up from my previous 200.

                • Everyone wanted $235+ for the B'stones... But I guess I should've gone to see my mate who runs one of the stores.

I paid $224 for the Dunlops.

PS. Drove into the city this arvo... Dunlops are noisy

                    Tyre Replaced - Kuhmo KU31
                    Km's on new tyre - 25km
Thoughts on new tyre - Undecided as only just got them, the Kumo's got 48,000kms before i went over a double whammy pothole and the sidewall gave out, was time for new tyres anyway.

Cost for Firenza ST-08's were $145 each fitted, balanced everything.

Thoughts on new tyre - Changed the Conti's after 48000km. The Marangonis are really nice in the dry! Lots of grip for both turning and accelerating, car feels more connected to the road, steering feels more direct. However, they're pretty terrible in the wet. I almost slid off a roundabout into the kerb the other day because the tyres just wouldn't grip to turn.

                        • Continental Sport Contact 1 update: after a couple thousand kms on them and one very hard trip over nebo i got to say these are great tyres. NOTE these ARE NOT CSC2's but 1's which retail at about 280each.
I am also being very careful over potholes etc but havent had any problems with the sidewalls yet, touchwood

What made you get these over the CSC2's ? They look fairly similar, maybe the CSC1's look like they'd be better at dispersing water in the wet. Anyway, just curious as to why you bought Continentals given the side wall issues that seem to occur.

                              • my spare is the CS1, weird.

A bit off topic, but is anyone elses spare not the CS2 as per factory specs?
