Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    kuhmo solus 205/45 r16 94h kh16

    &

the Kuhmo Ecsta's brilliant - ran them on when i went to mallala and kept up with a couple of brute utes with racing slicks and a couple of track cars with advans , great in the wet and dry

their only $ 185.00 each ( if you not a brand snob )

I'm interested in dropping my GF's 206, are you looking at the Eibach's with Torsion bar adjustment?

      • Noticed the state of my front tyres on the weekend, not good! Goodbye Conti's, will more than likely replace the lot with Toyo Proxes 4. Quoted $175ea fitted/balanced.

Not convinced the Kuhmo KU31's are up to the job, and the Marangoni's are probably too expensive although I will get a quote shortly.

A good user review of any tyre is basically all I'm after, so these Kuhmo's sounds good.

I haven't looked into it much, but yes it'll be something along those lines.

            • I don't think they are amazing, but i could get them locally for $110, so for the price, don't see anything else matching the grip, comfort and quiet nature.

              • I certainly wouldn't be paying that much for the Kumho's though.

I know I can get 205/45/16 KU31's here in Brisbane for $99 a tyre plus fitting. Hell, I can get the KU36 semi-slick in 215/45/16 for $133 a tyre too!

$185 is just far too much for them IMO, but they are a great tyre.

                • Good review, but pretty intense really, I don't want that much out of the tyre, maybe I should be looking at something more ~$160ish, then put my savings towards those springs...?

                  • kuhmo price

I just posted the rrp , As i get trade price it's not worth putting in what i pay for them so it 's better to overquote .

Mate, you're in Brisbane. Hit up http://www.option1garage.com.au/ for a set of KU31's, they are very road friendly and Option1 are doing them at $99 a tyre (plus fitting) at the moment.

wow that's basically half what the Bob Jane guy suggested in terms of pricing, so prices obviously don't reflect quality! I'll check the site out, cheers for the link.

edit: Is there some sort of in between one for $150 a corner? Or am I safe with $100 tyres, I just don't want to cheap out on them..

The KU31's at $99 a tyre are excellent, better than almost anything else you'd get for up to $200.

The only other tyre I'd personally consider in your price range is the Kumho KU36 semi-slicks (next one up from the KU31's), but I'm not sure semi-slicks would be suitable depending on your driving style and how comfortable you are with the shorter lifespan and higher level of road noise that comes with semi's.

do you know if they'll keep em at that price, or currently a special? Almost worth buying a set to sit in the corner for 6months. Also makes a set of semi's a viable option for the handful or more track days a year I plan to do.

I can't say as I'm not affiliated with them or know anything about the special. Your best bet is to throw them an email, they replied very quickly to my previous inquiry.

I just know they quoted me at $99 a tyre for the KU31's, and $133 a tyre for KU36's (albeit, the KU36's only come in a wider 215/45/16 option)

                              • Option1 do there tyres at cost price + $10

There is no specials. That is there normal pricing.
