Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thought it might be the brakes since they are pretty worn, untill i started using the brakes and the noise didnt change. Also gets louder when i put pressure on the right side by turning left

Cant see anything rubbing i think... Could be a wheel bearing or maybe the driveshaft i dunno[
Could be a strut top bearing. I have to replace mie again, and they re a pretty common problem on the Polo.

    • yup, its the weak point on my car. Maybe the increased tyre width or tracking width affects the bearings, they seem pretty fragile.

      • Fitted a New South Performance Boost Gauge, SWG Holder and Forge DV 008 on the weekend

What springs are people running in their DV008's ?

        I'm running the Yellow one.

I like how the boost is between quick gear changes. Seems... Faster?

Thanks guys Gunna swing by the mechanics today and have a look at it up on the hoist. Hopefully its not too major coz i may have to take it up to Sydney for Christmas.

Edit: Got it up in the air. Apparently there was a stone caught up on the inside of the brakes causing the noise. Should be all good now

personally i'd chuck it .. sorry!

go GFB, or Baileys as the forge fluctuates to much because of the spring rates.

                • After 220,000KM my mothers Polo (2001, 1.4 16v) cracked a CV joint.

Unfortunately she was in Eden and needed to be in Melbourne tomorrow night, so I have had a very long drive with a small box and a 36mm socket to enact a rescue mission.

Funny part was it let go and was not clicking prior - just cracked the retainer for the ball bearings and out they spewed! Bad luck, but a decent amount of work I spose being the originals.

It will fluctuate based on spring. Boost comes on early and holds and drops off earlier.

So either hold boost longer at high rpm or come on strong at lower etc. Its a bit all over the shop hence i changed! Tried 5 diverters to go back to GFB at the end of it!

                            Luck was good indeed!

Was fitted in two hours this morning (finished at 8.30am) on the standard jack and without removing the drive flange or the ball joint with some basic tools in a motel car park. Car made it from Eden to Port Melbourne no stress. Might get the other one replaced out of precaution!
