Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Got them off a mate who has Alcons on his S3.

Got my coilovers delivered today... Now just need to get my car back and the use of my right arm before I can fit them!!

              • Finally found a set of 17" rims that clear the APR 323mm brake kit and aren't made of granite (a la the Audi TT rims I've been using) - OZ Ultraleggera 17x8.

                • Nice, I was looking at getting a set of ultraleggeras a while back, tire rack had some great prices and still sub-$1000 including shipping.

That's where I picked up these - around $900AUD for the set with the current exchange rate.

The car has height adjustable Bilstein PSS9 coil overs, which are set up so that a 215/40-17 tyre on an 8" rim only just clears the inside of the guards. Don't have any rubbing issues, even with track / motorkhana driving, but I certainly wouldn't want to drop it any lower.

The rears in the photo above have 205/40-17 tyres which I test fitted first, hence why the front track looks a bit wider than the rear in that photo.

                        • Playing around, checking spark gaps, blah blah blah...
I was having some odd movement from the suspension so decided to check the droplinks and lube the front sway bushes. Original links were shot. Put the Mondeo ones in, so much better. Car was becoming a little crashy, bumpy, noisy. I'm amazed how big of an impact the dodgy links were mmaking.

Yep, picked up the same set mid-last year when the rate was decent - The best wheels ever! It was between ultraleggeras or superleggeras, only had the UL in stock

I can vouch for this, I had a set replaced under warranty and the car felt so much nicer after they were in much less noise
