Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • We pulled the gearbox on Sooty today. I'm sending it off to our connection at VW Motorsport for it to have some love. This week I will clean up the engine bay, just general maintenance and fit the SPEC Clutch & flyhweel.

My fuel gauge JUST started moving after 300km of suburban driving - I was worried that it might have becomed jammed from the amount of extra fuel I put in using the vent trick.

Is there any danger with putting so much more petrol in the tank? I tried it the other day but only once to see if it worked. Didnt know that little thing was there ...

              • Yes for petrol if you aren't going to use the extra fuel immediately as expansion of the fuel, if it warms, could cause it to flow out of the tank. For a fill up just before you go for a longish drive, it should be fine.
For a diesel (like mine), this isn't an issue.

Yeah, you are lucky you have a diesel... The best I have got is 240km before the fuel gauge needle started moving...

Not bad, best i got was about 100 before it moves off full, usually hits the first quarter mark by 155ish, this is with the APR chip.

                      • Received my 312mm front and 280mm rear discs and carriers from ECS tuning

Going on the car on saturday. Using the same calipers for now, but will change up to the TT variety when my current pads run out.

Are you able to run 312mm discs on standard calipers (with spacers)?? Would love to hear your impressions once done.

                          • From what I read it is certainly possible. I bought the discs from ECS and they seemed to think it would work alright. That whole principle of levers or some such

I'll know for sure come around 4pm saturday I supppose!

                            • Yeah, that increased leverage and disc size should prove considerable/noticable, assuming the mount is solid enough, doesn't flex, etc. Had used to do similar things with the subaru forester, run XT brakes on the GT, marginal increase in size provided a solid improvement in braking ability.

                              Will follow with interest.

I thought you couldnt, from what i know and have heard, the polo calipers/carriers are 1 peice. To go 312mm, you need TT carriers, which you cant use with the polo calipers, hence the need for VR6/MK4 GTI Calipers

I have a set of calipers if anyone wants them
