Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you still wanted something hatchy - S3 8P (yes I'm biased).
The K04 and TFSI combo is great with quattro, for around $25k you get plenty of car with 200kw atw on the stock turbo without major mods.

    • Finished fitting the FTG K04-001 turbo. 15kms around the suburbs and no leaks. Also drove fine in 4th gear at 50kph. Was a little concerned it may be too laggy.

      • Fitted a whiteline FARB. Its a big job. Glad I was doing it with a mate as an extra pair of hands came in handy a few times. Its a bit of a rubics cube under there actually. I can see now how the subframes are vulnerable to movement. Just the two undersize bolts handling the wishbone forces but also all the longitudinal engine movement banging straight into the crossmember bolted between the two sub frames. Got pretty late towards the end so when the eddy eccentric sleeves didn't just slide straight in it was put back together as before. Will have to get under there again at a later date with a ream to fit them up. Havent given the car a real drive on the new bar yet but have to say that in terms of NVH at pedestrian speeds, there is no real difference to a stock bar for me so happy with that aspect so far.

Yep, quite the job. Did mine myself almost two years ago. Big job and a tense first drive!

Put mine back onto 16s today and lowered it down again.

            • Yesterday I went to change the coolant temp sensor as it had thrown 2 faults. Managed to drop the C-clip into the engine bay, and after 45mins looking I had to give up. Made a temporary one from a coathanger, and today went and got a replacement. Whilst I had the intake off yesterday I did the "flap" mod; at least it wasn't a complete waste of time!

                • Burnt the clutch that is rated for 410nm the other day
It was going uphill in the rain, yet it spun before the trye did
Can still smell that next day

                        • 3x new coils (1 already replaced), 4x ngk bkr7e plugs (0.7mm gap), and APR dogbone mount installed. Think I'm done with mods! (for now )

I'd sell mine for something that drove, not better... but sharper. Stuwey did you have an idea what you'd move to? I drove a Clio RS200 which is well executed but doesn't feel fast. I can't imagine much short of an STI or Megane RS, Focus RS etc would really replicate the visceral, mechanical feel of the uber Polo.
