Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Well, it's kinda complicated

Yeah look at the marks on it
Every time I touch it, it gets scratched

The pipe kit I got was for a PoG, doesn't really fit the PoD route
So I improvised using some silicon elbows from the SMIC at the time

Just ordered some pipes and clamps online that will suit the correct route

This arvo I got a quote from VW spares for VW Coolant System replacement hoses , $820 ouch! Thermostat, $80.00 ouch! Anyone got a better option for Thermostat?

I have the Pentrite G12 pink already. What else do I need for a Coolant System service?

While I was at it clutch throw out bearing, $120. Just for the future as JMac recommended uisng the WV one with the ECS kit.

So googled the old group buy on here and found an Aussie site and placed my order on line at http://samcosport.com.au/index.php/r...oses-7422.html for the SamcoSport Silicon Coolant Hoses (6 pack) in Blue with some help of Ross at SamcoSport. Ross was very helpful and so was Kim was too. From order it will be 6 to 8 weeks to get these made up by SamcoSport UK and to me, so I am told.

                Cheers Al

                • Why do you need a thermostat Al? Was that for standard hoses. I have lots of the common ones from mine and Anthony's in my garage if you have damaged ones.

                  • Hi Gav,
Thanks for the offer. Mine is fine but I thought that when doing a coolant system service, the thermostat gets replaced?

                    • How much did the silicone set cost? I run silicone hoses on my bikes and they are great.

I would only change one if it wasn't working. Access is pretty bad and you risk breaking something else......

Sourced a set of 17's from a 6r. Only problem is how pathetic my rear brakes look now!

                            • I did a check of under hood and under car in advance of Sydney trip next week. Had a good look underneath checked the chassis/suspension/etc. All good and ready to roll. I have a nearly full tank of 98 RON BP Ultimate. Will check tyre pressures again on the departure morning.

Anyone recommend best route/roads and stopovers departing Brisbane early 5th Nov to arrive Sydney morning o nthe 7th Nov?

We sort of like the idea of Yamba and Foster to stop and look around.

                              Cheers Al

I like the 6R 17s so much I'd also like a set for mine. Looks good on your red Gti.
