Lol yeah I had a small heart attack when they arrived and I measured them! I thought to myself I swear I ordered the 17x8" not 17x9". I quickly jumped on the net and as it turns out you measure the width of rims from the inside of the lips not the outside!

Thanks Ben! Yeah not much has happened in the way of progress over the last 2 months but I did manage to get the light weight battery in today. I will post some pics when imageshack decides it wants to work again!

BTW how's the Blue Meany mate??

      • So the install went pretty well. The only thing extra I had to buy outside of the MMP kit was a longer negative cable & terminal assembly.

I will also need to get a longer positive wire as well that connects the fuse assembly to the battery to give me enough length to fix the fuses on the left side of the battery but still inside the old battery box for a nice neat and secure finish.

Also as you can see it cleared up a heap of room, so could be an opportunity too to concoct a better air intake system.

Next weekend I will have a go at putting the shift bushings and the oil catch can that I'm a little sceptical of because it's for a MK 4 golf gti. Time will tell.

          • as far as iv'e seen he runs on 17x8 ET35 rims with Goodyear eagle F& 215/40/17 tyres.

i have superleggera in the same size as youre enkei's.
and i wanted to put 205/40/17 tyres on it because i thought 215 tyre won't fit and will scrub.
do you have any problem with those wheelsize and tyres?

You are correct Sir! No scrubbing at all with this set up but please note I have had my guards slightly rolled but nothing major. Infact I will be moving to 235/40R17's if the fitment goes well.

Main reasons for this are the Goodyears are a very hard compound tyre to begin with so you need to get some heat in them even for a street tyre before they really perform and even then from a standing start you don't get that really grippy feel you do from sticky rubber. Then I lost a heap of side wall height because now the're stretched over an extra inch, which also means the ride comfort and rim protection went out the window as I've been advised not to run anything less than 38psi to protect the light weight rims from pot hole damage etc. And 38 psi is a harsh ride combined with the loss of side wall height!

PS I love the superleggera's, are you happy with them??

Fellas, I got Superleggeras as well, 17x8. I plan to roll the guards to fit 215/45/17 (KU36). I'll be heading to a tyre shop to get a second opinion as well.

I figure, I can get a fantastic road/track tyre (KU36) for a bang-for-buck price (~$160), and roll the guards at the same time. Rather than have 215/40/17 and pay a premium for a great street tyre each time I need to change. (Very rare to find a 215/40/17 road/track tyre for a decent price).

What are your thoughts? VWinda, what size tyre are you currently running with your setup?

                  • Pog, you may struggle to get KU36's at present. I considered a set from Option1, but apparently there are none available in the country at present. The bloke mentioned there is a race series which are using them, though I can't be sure on what size he was referring to as I was going 16's. Perhaps make some calls to know for sure.

                    • Hey Pog,

                      Nice choice of rims.

Who are you going to get to roll your rims or will you do it yourself? The KU36's are meant to be pretty average in the wet, FYI.

Hey Jase, this is the link of the guy I used Precision Guard Rolling

Please note for anyone looking to get this done the front guards are an issue because the bolts that attach the plastic inner guard are very close already the lip of the panel. This means you lose the functionallity of the bolts so the inner plastic guard just hangs in place and is no longer bolted to the panel. This leaves a gap depending on how aggresive the roll is of about 20mm.

Not ideal but mine was the first pog he'd ever done and I agreed for him to have a go at an agreesive roll. The rears are no problem!

The cost was pretty good from memory but I can't remember exactly sorry.

                                Cool

I love this car, hopefully my car will be at this stage oneday

With the smaller battery, I wonder if a pod filter could be put somewhere inside the gaurd, it would really clean up the engine bay instead of having a big BMC CDA or something in there
