CAN-BUS: speed, reverse, light, parking brake signal from the ECU. The polo doesnt have the analogue system, all digital.

DVD/GPS/LCD headunit will have to get a CAN-BUS for it to work (eg; speed, reverse & parking brake signal ).

on eBay theyre around $150aud inc shipping (to aust), Your local audio shop can get them for around $200aud.

Ok, I'm about to order a whole bunch of stuff to install an Eclipse HU. I've got the fascia sorted, but the wiring business has me a bit confused as to what I need to buy. Not going to be splicing anything, I want it totally plug and play.

I know what the CANBUS adapter does, but what I want to know is, if I buy a VW specfic one, do I need an ISO wiring adapter in addition to the canbus adapter? or is the canbus adapter also a wiring loom adapter?

And as for the antenna adapter, does the 9n3 GTI need an antenna booster, or is the roof antenna just a regular passive one? EDIT: on closer inspection, the adapters I've found all seem to have an extra wire which looks like it takes care of the booster part.

        Cheers

Where are these $150 adaptors on ebay??

I can't find a damned thing on there!

I've got a fascia and wiring adaptor coming in the mail so will be attempting install with it, but if I need one this is going to turn into a right pain in the arse.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting

Nice, had an eclipse on my old Corolla Seca, spend more on the sound system than the car cost.

Was a good system, filled the whole boot with sealed custom box, mids and pair of 15's. Not much to look at, but was clean and loud enough for some permenant damage to my left ear.

What else are you putting in your Pog?

noone: haha that seca install is crazy! I wanted to do something like that when I had my ae82 when I was much younger!

At this stage I'm just planning to keep it pretty simple, will probably just upgrade the splits later on. And maybe a compact sub setup.

There should be no need for a compact sub if you get a decent set of splits and power them well with a quality amp.

You'll be surprised just how much bass a set of quality 6" splits can put out, and the Polo's with their large doors provide an excellent resonance for bass (particularly when sound deadened).

That said, my definition of 'quality splits and amp' aren't exactly cheap.

That's exactly what I'm thinking Break, I've got a nice set of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5's in my old GT-Four which I may re-use if they'll fit the pogo's doors. Cost me $500 down from $1000 a few years back, very nice speakers and don't normally need a sub.

Hey Tooch, that's exactly what i had in my Civic, and the Kappas are now sitting in the room staring right at me. i wonder if they would fit the POG. i paid $500 too, from ebay a few years back. thinking of getting another pair for the back, as they seem cheaper now on ebay, waiting for seller to confirm shipping cost (list price about $270).

Not sure if the kappas twiter will fit the stock location in the front tho.

I've ordered the facia kit, with keys, antenna adepter, and ISO cable/adepter, and speak kit from ebay for my Pioneer HU and Splits, it's just an old one with USB input DEH-P6000UB

ef9: I had a look into it, the Polo's stock speakers are 6", but nexxia.co.uk has these inserts for the door to allow 6.5's in the stock location. Thinking of getting some to give it a go. But yeah you're probably right about the tweeters, the stock ones are kinda small. Could possibly swap the Infinity ones for a smaller aftermarket pair though.

Sounds like you ordered most of the same stuff as me, except the canbus adapter. Thanks for the reminder about the keys though, I would have been spewing when I realised I couldn't get the head unit out

vwthunder: looks good mate! How did you go in terms of making it fit flush?

I planned on doing it all myself

                              I ran power cable
Sound deadned doors, and put speakers in
Tweeters were hard due to airbags, so the shop put the tweeters and Unit in

It sticks out a little, not as much as some others have
The pioneer unit does not fold like some for the CD to go in, so it can sit a little further back
