I went in there with the intention of buying a set of the keys, as they were on their website. Asked the guy about them and he just said "drive the car into the workshop and one of the boys will do it for ya!".

Didn't charge me anything despite me offering to pay for the effort. Only took the guy all of 2 mins, took him longer to remove one of the keys that was stuck in the deck

Yes I agree, they put my unit in and finished the wiring, so I am guessing they have a bit of experence with Polos now

They've got some nice gear there too, Audison amps and all sorts of other goodies. Almost got the credit card out

Nice bunch of blokes, certainly beats the arrogant attitude that most of the chain/franchise places have now.

On another note, I'm really happy with how this unit sounds compared to the stock deck. Makes the stock speakers really shine, they actually sound GOOD! And they put out enough bass for me, I'm not going to bother with a sub.

I got mine through an associate for approximately half the retail price

With the AVIC series, you can use the US models here, takes a bit of tweaking to get the aus maps on them, but not too hard. The FM tuner should work ok here, don't think AM will, and the US models don't have SUNA traffic announcements.

              www.avic411.com has heaps of info

Got mine imported, was finding it hard to get the Clarion Ddin here, there's like a dying marketing for DDins here too.

                  Piczors:

I have to pull the unit out again at some stage to replace the dodgy CANBUS box, so when I do I'll modify the fascia so it sits more flush. Pretty happy with it as is though.
That custom GTI splash image I just found on the interwebs, on avic411.com forums.
I also made a custom mic bracket, as the plastic one that comes with the AVIC sucks, its ugly and faces the mic the wrong way.
You can also see where I fed the USB and ipod cable through, there is a little blanking plate in the glovebox which you can just push out with your fingers. Then use a stiff wire to feed the wires through to the stereo area. Took all of 1 minute.
One thing I hate though is the piano black finish of the unit. For someone OCD about fingerprints like me, it drives me insane! I carry a cloth in my glovebox just to dust/wipe it

Also FYI, if you get a VW to ISO convertor, here is the ISO pinout that you can wire your head unit's harness directly to: http://web.onetel.net.uk/~uncletony/in_car.htm

Wire number A5 (blue, power antenna) works as a switched +12v, behaves exactly like it should (stays on until key removed). So you don't technically need a canbus adapter to do that, or splice into any cigarette socket wiring.

As for the antenna booster that you need for these cars, I just ran that one off the head unit's power antenna output.

I wish I had of known about the antenna power wire! I'll tell you right now i'll be changing that on mine as soon as I get home after chrissy! That's my big annoyance with the after market head unit. Does the hu turn on when you put the key in but before you switch the car on? (so you can use the stereo without turning the car to on)

Nah it's exactly like the stock stereo, you have to turn the key to on, the position before start. I normally turn it to on, then back to off if I want to use the stereo without starting the car, that way all the other electronics are off.

You are the man!!!! i installed my headunit today, and the antenna wire works just like you said, and behaves just like stock

I brought a VW to ISO wire adapter, the antenna adapter, and a facia kit from ebay for my single din headunit, it turns out i got the wrong facia kit, i ended up installing the HU without a facia kit, just used the pocket that came with it. It doesn't look factory at all, but i'm happy with it.

I also brought an ISO to Pioneer harness from autobarn, i ended up installing the HU without cutting any wire or even pulling out the battery (i know i should have, but got lazy, and it's damn hot in Melb right now).
The only thing is you will need to pull the 12V red wire out of the connector, and put it back in to the Antenna slot on the connector to match the antenna connection.

I also managed to get my stereo working like stock (stays on till key is out) without a CANBUS adapter.

I was hunting around for a wire with a bloke from work, when he asked why we couldn't just use the acc wire coming out of the adapter plug... after my explanation about CANBUS etc etc, he grabbed the multimeter and actually tested the wire.

                            It. Bloody. WORKS.

After reading up on them on here I had never even thought about connecting the acc wire up, just hooked into the ciggy lighter as suggested.

                            I loled massively.

Has anyone else actually attempted to hook up the acc wire to the harness? I can't be the only one!
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting

Hey Danish, I originally hooked up the ACC wire, and the HU stayed on even after i pulled the key out ( which is what i don't want ), so i hooked it up using the Antenna wire instead, and the power cut out after i pull the key out. I think the only thing it's different to stock now is that i can't turn the HU on unless i put the key in and turn it. When it was stock i could turn the HU one without putting in the key.

If you want to know the part number of the fascia kit I got, let me know. Took a bit of trimming to fit how I wanted but I'm very happy with it.

BTW, have you attempted to fit the Infinity's yet?
