  • Polo Stereo Advice

I know this is not the Stereo section, but it is specific to Polo.

Hopefully there are some Polo stereo experts out there

I will hopefully have a GTI soon and I have a Alpine IVA-W502E unit

Can someone tell me what this Canbus thing is, and how hard it will be to install this unit?

What do I need, special harness etc ?

Will this fit straight in, seeing as it is a double din?

    Thanks guys and girls

    Hi,

I will have my GTI on thursday (brands spanking new one).
Will be getting the stereo work done a few weeks after that.

AFAIK the professional installers have said they would need a custom facia plate and wireing harness. i would suggest called your local car sound installer and they will be able to get what you need.

Forget the CAN-BUS, grab one of these to connect to the harness in the car. Cut the generic ISO connectors off the opposite end and solder on the Alpine harness. Heat shrink the joints and there you have a custom VW to Alpine adapter The only other connections needed are switched ignition and illumination - I took these from the cigarette lighter.

I've had mine installed for nearly a year this way with zero problems to report.

No one changed their unit, standard one looks crap, looks like some kid designed it

              Golf one looks much nicer

I've got some at home I found searching the 'net, which I'll post up when I get home.

No much point posting mine, as I've got a Alpine 9887, which is single DIN.

Got a double din in mine, does stick out a little but this can be solved by getting a coustom surround made, i just used the one in the box and means the unit is in the furthest position out.

Will try and get a picture to show. I have seen a polo gti at uni awhile back with same unit installed but totally flush with dash and looked great.

Regarding the harness, the guy who installed mine used individual connectors onto the original harness which then lead to the alpine plug, similar to what jon said he has hard done but kinda the opposite way around. Im seriously getting a headache figuring out how to explain it so ill stop.

btw this is one i found for the polos but is ridiculously expensive, its the FP-015 http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_f...wagen/polo.htm

BTW here is a pic, probably protrudes about 1cm. I really want to make it flush though

Got a Pioneer AVIC F900BT installed a month ago or so and sits fairly flush with the dash. Problem was for some reason it didn't come with a surround to cover the space between the dash and the unit so the install guy to jb hifi had to find a flat surround panel that fit. Overall, farily happy with the fitment and not too fussed as anything aftermarket may not always fit 100
                        % like factory.

Nice one they look beautiful but $$$

I only really like the Alpine and your Pioneer, but Pioneer was out of my price range

I have the FP-015 cage which i have my Pioneer F900bt installed in. The plastic surround sticks out at least 5mm from the dash which i am overly happy about. The pioneer doesn't come with a cage though which makes it very difficult to mount nicely so it is worth getting just for that reason.

I'm currently waiting on a replacement canbus adapter to replace the generic one i had which died. The new one i'm getting is meant to be VW specific so the accessories signal is meant to stay on until the key is removed (similating the behaviour of the factory head unit). Currently i'm tapping off the cigarette lighter which for me turns off as soon as the ignition is turned off.
