It sticks out a little, not as much as some others have
The pioneer unit does not fold like some for the CD to go in, so it can sit a little further back
So did the tweeters fit in the original slots in the A pillar?
the HU looks nice by the way.

But yeah you're probably right about the tweeters, the stock ones are kinda small. Could possibly swap the Infinity ones for a smaller aftermarket pair though.

Sounds like you ordered most of the same stuff as me, except the canbus adapter. Thanks for the reminder about the keys though, I would have been spewing when I realised I couldn't get the head unit out
      Tooch, i ordered the speaker kit along with the other stuff, which fits a 165mm/6.5" speakers;

re: infinity tweeters, the whole infinity sounds so sweet that i dont really wanna replace the tweeter with a different one, will would change the characteristic of the speakers. Well i will see what happens when i get to it.
Ordered another pair of Kappa prefect 6.1 yesterday, with $323 shipped

Noone, I had the seca too, it was a 91 ultima, only had a 12" 250RMS clarion sub in a huge as box (not sure why the shop built me such a huge box for such a weak sub )

I think you might, for "ACC" (power)

emmm.....can't i just joint the red wire (from the pioneer/sony harness) to the VW wire which only has power when the key is turned to ACC? or does the VW not have one? (becase we can turn the HU on even when the key is out)

              Edit:

Did some more searching and found this thread with almost everything i needed, still some unanswered questions but it's a good start.
thinking about upgrading mine, no idea what to get though in terms of what double din to get thats good or is it worth upgrading speakers aswell. does anyone actually know what system is in the gti allready in terms of model and what speakers are used? if anyone has upgraded theirs and has some piccies on offer that would

some said to use the cig/lighter wire, and the HU will switch off after the key is out, and some says it will stay on for an hour. Also some says there is an accessory wire, and some says there isn't, this is the only dilema at the moment. Will give it a crack once my kit/harness arrives, can't wait.

That's all you need. It's a CANBUS adapter which will give you the appropriate outputs (illumination, accessory, speed sense etc) which you won't find in the Polo's loom. The CANBUS adapter also has 2x ISO plugs with all the other outputs (constant 12v, speakers, etc) which you can either cut the plugs and wire to your head unit's harness, or buy an ISO adapter to work between the CANBUS adapter and your head unit.

You'll also need an antenna adapter to turn the VW's ISO antenna plug into a regular car stereo one.

Thanks tooch, i've already paid for the standard wiring adapter, along with the facia kit and antenna adepter. I will see how it goes when they arrive. Thanks for the link, at least i know what i need if the one i have ordered causes any problems.

                  This is what i've got:

                  Cheers.

You can always just run an accessory wire from the cigarette lighter if need be. I just want to make mine as factory as possible, hence the canbus thing

I still haven't even got a head unit yet, my source for the cheap Eclipse AVN726 has fallen through I think, so gotta start looking around again

I'll be interested to see how you go with those speaker adapters and the Infinity's

Well looks like I'm probably getting a Pioneer F900BT now as I can get one very cheaply through a source

So I just ordered the following from Dynamic Sounds in the UK.

                        1 x Connects 2 CT23VW03A -Polo Double Din (CT23VW03A) = £28.95
                        1 x Autoleads PC5-137 - DIN Aerial Adaptor (PC5-137) = £7.99
                        1 x Connects 2 CTSVW002 - £33.99
                        1 x Autoleads PC5-133 - Volkswagen Radio Removal Keys (PC5-133) = £2.99

Came to $185 including shipping thanks to our dollar being good with the GBP at the moment.
Considering most stores here sell that EXACT connects2 CANBUS adapter for close to $200, its a bargain

Just finished the install of my Pioneer AVIC F310BT tonight

Followed the guidance here with the wiring loom purchase, fascia from nexxus and aerial adaptor.

All in all only took about an hour from go to woah.... although it took me 3 days to get the stock unit out

                          Heres the unit installed:

                          Mic run up the A-pillar:

iPod connector run under the steering column, popping out in the tray underneath:

I mounted the GPS underneath the top tray on the dash, gets perfect reception and completely hidden, far superior to having it sitting on the dash, thats for sure.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting

I got my AVIC HD3. Since then im loving it! I'm still waiting for the fascia cover as they're custom making it (didn't come with in the package from Pionner). Let me tell you, if anyone of you guys wanna get one of these GPS LCD, make sure you have a CANBUS. if not goodluck

Installed the Microphone in one of the spare buttons so its hidden away (next to the Defogger switch)

GPS is under the top dash.

Gyro Sensor (measures left, right, forward, reverse, slope, G-force, altitude and so on). Works superb in tunnels or when you don't have the GPS signal

Thanks To FHRX Studios for putting them on and getting a Focal subwoofer in couple of weeks!

I put my AVIC F900BT in today. The actual install process was pretty easy, but the unit wouldn't power on. Checked and double checked all the wiring, all was ok. Did some investigation and figured out that the Connects2 CANBUS adapter doesn't work
Will have to send it back. For the mean time though, I've got the ignition switching wire coming from the power antenna wire. Switches on with the ignition, and turns off when you remove the key! Surprised nobody has noted this before.
Everything works as it should, GPS probably won't be 100% until I get the canbus adapter sorted.

Connects2 double din fitting kit is pretty good, can't get the unit completely flush due to all the wiring and crap at the back, but its good enough.

Massive thanks to No Limit Electronics in City Rd. Sth Melbourne for removing the stock deck for me as I had the wrong keys. Very helpful and friendly guys, I'd recommend going there for any professional car audio stuff.
Much more than I can say for another local shop who I won't name, but we'll call "Gareth's", quite well known car audio shop.

How much they quote to remove the stock deck? Was it just you borrowed the keys to pull it out, or did they do the installation too, I just need someone with keys to pull mine out, Ive got all the bits and pieces ready pretty much to put my Clarion DDIN HU in...
