Motoring journo's are just that, journalists. Journalists first and foremost, everything else second.
you also have to remember that we have had months/years to perfect a launch.....and after that time there are still quite a few that still can't perfectly take off (i know i can't consistently).

these journo's get a few days, maybe a week to do what most can do in a few years. in any car, its a bloody good effort get close to company quoted times when you've been drving the car for a few days.

now i think of it, i was reading a review on the polo gti yesterday (popular australian website which also have a mag) and they managed a 7.5 0-100 in the polo gti....VW quoted 8.2sec. must be crap drivers

I'm an advertising manager, why would that make me better driver than a journalist? They spend more time around cars than most people - almost to the point you'd call them professional drivers that write stories.

Just a couple questions... have you driven any of the following cars... (answer for each)

      Golf GTI
      Modified Golf GTI (200-300kw atw)
      Polo GTI
      Modified Polo GTI (120-150kw atw)
      Focus XR5
      Fiesta XR4

Also, have you EVER driven on a track?
      Drag strip?
      If so, what car...

Just trying to gauge how clueless you are because you sound like you're going to be answering no to all of the above.

      • Thing you seem to forget Pump-Dusse is that very few of the Polo GTI's on this site are 110kW (220Nm) .... most are running around - flywheel measures - 152+kW (328+Nm) mark with the mods.

Trying to compare anything in the mags based on the modded cars on here is chalk and cheese and the only measure is on the street (or track) where you can put your modded Polo GTI up against an XR5 or whatever.

thats a good point. i understand that comparing a stock Polo GTI to a stock XR5, we will get caned.... but what good is that info to us?? most of us are modified and its the chipped vs other info that we need. a stock to stock comparison is just irrelevant for most here.

on another note, the (now old shape) XR5 is as ugly as sin! i have seen a few new shape ones and they don't look too bad, but they copied the XR4 and copped the ugly fat GT stripes....

                    • Not sure what it'll be as of yet, depends on financial situation.

More likely then not, I'll get another Clio 172. I'd love an R32 Golf (IV) if I can afford one...

I've actually thought about a GTI Polo + APR K04 (on many occasions) but... scared about how the rest of the driveline would hold up to twice the power & torque.

                      • I wouldnt be bragging about the XR5 Turbo.. Im serious my dads Fairlane 5.0 almost pulled its pants down. Yeah it was only a quick run but I dont think the XR5 turbo was gonna pulls away.

Im sure the Polo Gti would outsprint the Fairlane in APR mode.

A stock Polo would be about level with a XR5 turbo but an APR Polo would take the girl home before the XR5 Turbo realised there was a girl at the dance.

                          • He'd have to buy a Ford after all this ...

although he might buy a Golf TDi (upsize!) so he can move into their forums and tell them how the Golf GTI is slower than the XR5,6, etc ....
