Polo GTi... Limp wristed image

I love my Polo Gti but this is the sort of comments I have to deal with

- When you bought it, Did you think it was a Golf Gti and got fooled?
- How can you drive that thing, dont your knees hit the roof
- Wheres is your car?
- People scoff when i say it would give a WRX or a V8 a run for its money.

Basically a lack of respect from the people that arnt in the know.

How do we toughen up the Polo Gti image? different wheels (but i like the standard wheels), tougher sounding, make the turbo start snorting every time you lift the throttle.. (Rice)

Im getting tired of defending my car... but im sure happy about the insurance premiums : )

meh I cop it too, my girlie calls it the lady wagen, my mates constantly gib me about missing 4 cylinders... I just grin and bare it, then take them for a ride... still cop stick but they have respect for the beastie most want to take it for a spin.

Don't get the did you think it was a golf" remark as most my mates think it's a golf and I spend my time correcting them.... god damn my plates say VW POLO.... its really not that hard to remember.

im not a gti guy, but i say stuff toughening up the image.

im sure that owners of the original golf gti would have been facing the same dilemmas, yet look at its legacy.

dont let polos become the next wrx incident (sensible, modest, perfectly driveable car whose image gets hacked, abused, and riced simply because they are accessible and tuneable).

Well its a better car than the cars of those who have quite strong well exercised wrists.... if you get what I mean.

For the money, the package you get its not a bad deal.

The only remarks I've had about my car are general VW ones as opposed to Polo specific. Such as "does it blow smoke?" or "poor mans euro car"

Only had one fool on the road who when he asked me about my car, thought I said it was a Volvo and proceeded to tell me how I don't even know what I'm driving.

I absolutely love my car. She's cute, surprises anyone who happens to be a passenger, drives like a much larger when you want her to but can easily be driven like a go cart. But most of all, she's crazy solid and I feel super safe.

Some people have something to prove -- I'm more than happy with my choice of car so it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if someone said otherwise.

Yeah, i spose you gotta just cop it. annoys me, but then it's just the whole car/personality type. most people that drive larger cars i.e. V8's etc are decent people, the others that comment on it being a girly car are ignorant who are too self conscious to be even 1% different, and that think another 4 cylinders must equate to another 4 inches. once they can't afford to run 8's anymore cos they're paying a squillion $ a litre for petrol, they may change their tune...

personally, i reckon hatches are the dogs bollocks. but then again we're all products of our environment, mine being a euro hatch stable
