I was driving my dads Fairlane V8 last night and was at the lights with a XR5 Turbo Ford Focus..

To about 70km/h the speed limit, the front of the fairlane was at his rear bumper. he was going hell for leather but didnt have enough to turn into my lane which is what he wanted... Now he was ahead but thats no real bragging victory for the XR5 Turbo.. He had wobbly legs and he was the much fitter much newer $1.05 favourite. Where the old George Foreman fairlane was ok in its prime but today a $8.00 outsider. The Fairlane almost dropped him.

That focus owner should have been ashamed of himself.. Beating a fairlane V8is like beating up an old man.

There must be a new thread on some ford forum that says, Focus slays V8's..

what is my point.... Firstly saying I can beat a V8 is like saying how long is a piece of string and secondly, a Polo Gti would have no trouble dispatching a Focus XR5 turbo

I replied the black VW in the Carpark.. He chuckled, married life will do that to you..

I responded, that little thing is turbo charged, beleive me its enough fun..

He just said yeah but you could tell he thought I had lost the battle..

maybe its partly an age thing as well. When I was younger I had to have the tough Gen III SS, and enjoyed having it too. But once I reached the grand old late 20's (and got a mortgage), I didn;t really give a sh^t about what people thought of my car. I like my GTI, I agree it's tiny, but that's half the fun. It's cheap to run, and it still has a warranty so I don;t have to worry if it breaks down. Plus even though it's not as fast as the SS was, it's heaps faster to wash and wax

I gave a mate a lift on Saturday night to fetch his wife from a party she drove to. He normally drives a BA XR8 and I could see him look at my car with some disdain as he got in.

Within 200m he wanted to know WTF it was ......... In his opinion much quicker than the XR8 ..... he was absolutely gobsmacked ......

And I have had a few tussles with a number of XR8s over the last few years and have not found a single 1 that could keep up.....

Its no use talking to people like that, sometimes you just have to show them ........

So around 450hp to 480hp maxed out stock bottem end. Or fully built?

Even still. Why the hell would you go from that to a vw polo.

Unless married life was the real answer and you wanted to save on petrol...
