LOL ..... yep, but XR8's are the worst of the V8s .... so much so that Ford had to build the XR6T to regain some respect ....

SO .... since I don't class Ford V8s as "real" V8's my statement shouldn't count ....

Mmmmm ..... he likes to quote figures from obscure overseas publications that nobody has heard of before and disregard figures done under real world conditions ....... LOL

Anybody can attest to the fact that on a strip in perfect weather and perfect traction conditions a car will perform close to specs ....

However, on the road, with a fat Aussie bloke driving with a tank full of gas and beer dimmed reactions most V8s (not just Fords) are quick to discover the lethal weapon that a modded Polo is .... even if it is a girls car ....

so .... here we go again .....

I'm with you on that.

No doubt at all at the track they are faster. But on the street no way.

But hey. There will be only a few that understand what we are on about.

As my polo isnt just apr tune anymore i dont just keep up with them. I beat them.

The way some people have sounded in this thread. No matter how much power a polo has. It cannot be faster then a v8. lol. retards.

Hahaha ... don't think its any easier in the Golf section .... they have the same issues ... and sometimes we chime in and stir them up

But on that .... have you noticed that a Golf GTI driver will ignore you when you give them a wave .... bet they would have given a Golf GTI driver a wave back ...... I don't care its just amusing ....

I bought my car for a specific reason ..... smallest and lightest 1.8T 20V car ever made by VAG ..... and I had big plans for it .... still do ...

And the Golf GTI was not available in 3drs when I bought or that might have been what I'd be driving now.

My Old XR6T had 331rwkw. Or about 414kw at the flywheel at 20% drivetrain loss (it was auto, stronger rods installed). Easy 11 second car. I was sick of fixing gearboxes it used to fry every second time you booted it.. I specifically bought the Polo GTi as I thought there would be a lack of aftermarket stuff so I could have a turbo but keep it stock and wouldnt play nomore. Now im searching under every rock on every corner for an intercooler..

Also fuel prices were pretty scary for a while...

Married life is not the answer though.. more like frustrated with aftermarket tuners who cant sort it out right.. (they used to laugh when I told them the gearbox fried, its got too much power, I said well its under warranty mate, then they didnt laugh)

No ive got the problem of the Polo image wedged in my back..

and lose hair fastyer than planned...haha....that suits some. i'm just counting days til i finish uni before i can get into something better/faster....stronger?? . beggers can't be choosers! although, i am pretty happy to be in a Polo GTI as a student, better than an old beater Sigma.

This hread is rather amusing. I am astonished with all the in fighting since we are ALL driving VWs one way or another! lol
Anyway for what its worth, for it is just an opinion, I think most people giving Polo GTi's some flack are missing the point; The point that it really is a lot of car for $27k. Sure in stock form its not overlly fast but you gotta remember the Golf GTi is another $15K dearer and to be honest I can't see where that extra cash goes. Chipped, the polo is still under $30K and that is hard to beat. Sure it may not be as good or fast as the mini or the renault or even a peugeot but again all those cars are well over $30k. If you compare the Polo Gti to other cars in its price bracket nothing comes close IMHO.
And in terms of gettig harrassed driving one I have never had the sort. Quite the contrary all I get is great responses and people always say what a great car it is. Maybe because its bright red but it sure sticks out wherever I go ad believe it or not it turns heads and people are always checking it out.
