Anybody can attest to the fact that on a strip in perfect weather and perfect traction conditions a car will perform close to specs ....
However, on the road, with a fat Aussie bloke driving with a tank full of gas and beer dimmed reactions most V8s (not just Fords) are quick to discover the lethal weapon that a modded Polo is .... even if it is a girls car ....

No doubt at all at the track they are faster. But on the street no way.
But hey. There will be only a few that understand what we are on about.
As my polo isnt just apr tune anymore i dont just keep up with them. I beat them.
The way some people have sounded in this thread. No matter how much power a polo has. It cannot be faster then a v8. lol. retards.

My Old XR6T had 331rwkw. Or about 414kw at the flywheel at 20% drivetrain loss (it was auto, stronger rods installed). Easy 11 second car. I was sick of fixing gearboxes it used to fry every second time you booted it.. I specifically bought the Polo GTi as I thought there would be a lack of aftermarket stuff so I could have a turbo but keep it stock and wouldnt play nomore. Now im searching under every rock on every corner for an intercooler..
Also fuel prices were pretty scary for a while...
Married life is not the answer though.. more like frustrated with aftermarket tuners who cant sort it out right.. (they used to laugh when I told them the gearbox fried, its got too much power, I said well its under warranty mate, then they didnt laugh)
No ive got the problem of the Polo image wedged in my back..

This hread is rather amusing. I am astonished with all the in fighting since we are ALL driving VWs one way or another! lol
Anyway for what its worth, for it is just an opinion, I think most people giving Polo GTi's some flack are missing the point; The point that it really is a lot of car for $27k. Sure in stock form its not overlly fast but you gotta remember the Golf GTi is another $15K dearer and to be honest I can't see where that extra cash goes. Chipped, the polo is still under $30K and that is hard to beat. Sure it may not be as good or fast as the mini or the renault or even a peugeot but again all those cars are well over $30k. If you compare the Polo Gti to other cars in its price bracket nothing comes close IMHO.
And in terms of gettig harrassed driving one I have never had the sort. Quite the contrary all I get is great responses and people always say what a great car it is.
