In order to smooth out the power delivery at the top end (5500-6800rmin) I'd recommend you do the SEAT intake, a quality filter and a FORGE TIP as well as the chip.

It won't give you any extra power but will make it rev cleanly to 6800rmin whereas with the stock intake it gets noticably choked over 5500rmin when chipped.

Many threads on here about that. Do a search.

Thanks fellas! You may have a laugh but I dont think I have ever gone past 5500RPMs anyway! I have never redlined it not even once. I don't see the need quite honestly unless I'm trying to burn off some frustration for instance and for the fact that their aint many places in Perth where one can fully sustain RPMs of that nature. But I will check out the plumbing a bit further. I have done quite a bit of searching on this web site and the funny thing is that it all seems subjective according to the each individual. Take for instance the use of a BOV. For me I think the sound of them is really quite horrid but others love it and from the research I have done all they seem to be good for is making that strange hissing noise.
Interestingly as I said earlier, on the phone, my mechanic reckons there is very little to be gain even in engine effeciency. Perhaps he didn;t fully grasp what I was enquiring so I shall talk to him in person on Thursday in any case.
Thanks quest for the heads up on the V2 chip. That would be the one to get as really dont see myself taking this onto the track. I dont even know if there is a Polo club scene in Perth. I dont see too many on the streets thats for sure.
      Cheers

LOL. The only time mine is below 5500rpm is when the key is not in the ignition

Having said that knowing what I am like I'll be rather envious and want to get all the same done to mine lol. Actually what is the difference with APR V2? Is that what I am getting? LOL I'm just going whats on their website and thats about as much as I know.

I've just been talking to quattros and asked them if they recommend any other upgrades that should be done along with the the APR chiiping. Brian said that he believed there is very little to be gained in the money I would have to spend and reckons that chipping alone does not create any bottlenecks or undue stress compared to stock. I like it when you get straight up people who don;t cram products done your throat.

So apart from getting the dogbone mount upgrades I am looking at the handling side of things; ie. sway bars.

Anyway the cars already booked in this week so I'll let you know what my thoughts are.

No worries Mozzy, I could do the driving (probably even more dangerous) Brian from quattro is possibly quite correct nothing beats bang for buck like a chip. FMIC for 5kw = $2,500. Exhaust for 8kw $2500. Chip for 42kw $1500.
I think everything after a chip is an expensive kw crawl but fun if modding is ya thing...sure its not all about kw and nm but it gives you an idea.

              Hey Bumpknuck,

I might try and make it down to say g'day. I'm in Beechboro.
I might not make the drive (1year old son at home) but I'll love to meet some Poloists and modded GTi's

              Cheers

not necessarily correct Chipped, that 42kW will only last you the first 5-10mins of driving then heatsoak will set in and you'll be down to about ~125-130kW at the flywheel (100-105kW at the wheels) from then on until your car has cooled right down again. thats a big difference from the ~150kW at the fly on your first few minutes of driving.

for the price of FMIC's and downpipes they should not be discarded. an FMIC may only give you an extra 5-7kW at the wheels from a cold start, but it will keep the power at that level consistently even when the car heats up. so really, an FMIC is giving you about 25-30kW at the flywheel on top of the chip on a hot engine.

There have been FMIC core's available on this site for ~$300 (about $950 installed), now thats value!

downpipes have been proven to give you about 7kW extra and hold off heatsoak for a lot longer as well.

but in my eyes these mods should be done AFTER the chip for maximum output!

                  Cheers,
                  Rhys

Sharkie had some for sale at that much ($290 actually). He had 5 and they didn't exactly get snapped up, took him a bit to get rid of them It think DaveMack got the last one. I had one on hold but nails in my tires at the time meant i had to spend money elsewhere.... so angry about that.

Excuse one's ignorance but what is a FMIC and what does it do? What do ya know Front Mounted Intercooler. Got it now. Ok since the car has one already, what does this one do that the stock doesn't?

In regards to modding I'm more interested in preservation of the engine and efficient running, better handling etc, not necessarily extra Kws because quite frankly any more Kws in such a small car kinda scares me a little hey.

Anyway when I bought the car I already found it quite a handful as it was but now after time you really get used to the power and it seems somewhat underpowered now! lol

There is a chance Brian misinterpretted what I was getting at but he did say that the chipping is well within the limits of the car and that it does not add any choke points which kinda goes against what people on this forum have been saying. Personally I agree that the bigger plumbing would certianly make the car run better, not necessarily adding more power but making it a more effecient engine. Brian Chellingworth comes from a very well known family motor group in Perth and it would be quite hard to argue the point to a mechanic who has been around before most of us where a glint in our parents eyes! lol

And bumpknuck I might just suss out whats going on the weekend. Hey I was just reading somewhere you had issues with JH's when you took delivery on your car? Is that correct? Do you get it sorted? I had an issue with them and dam they really pissed me off when they tried so hard to argue it with me. Actually it was one of their 'concierge' girls and dam she was a beatch! Was not overlly impressed with that.

Anyways carry on..oh what do you goes put on your leather seats if you have them?
