OMFG! Just picked up my car from having a service, dogbone upgrade and APR chip tune and I kid you not its like I left my 'old' car there and picked up a new one!! The difference is very dramatic to say the least. Not only that but the whole car feels a lot firmer with the APR dogbones. Even despite the power increase the difference the dogbones make anyway is also quite astounding. I couldn't wipe the smile of my face the entire drive home! I wont be able to take it for a good run until tomorrow but all I can say is wow! lol To have a car with this much performance for less than $30K is really quite remarkable I think. It surely can't be beaten for value? But the question remains; what else can I do to it?....lol

Flo as I said in an earlier post the times I've had to use 95RON I could hardly tell the difference to be honest but thats in stock configuratrion. You would really have to be picky to notice it so I don't think you are missing much especially since yours is chipped anyway. But there could be a difference once the engine is chipped but I wouldn't know. In the end you dont really have much choice in the end if 98RON aint available. Having said that I was rather envious that the eastern states of Aus has or had even hogher spec fuel. 98RON is not that widely available here. I think BP is the only one but I could be wrong.

Front mount Intercooler + Downpipe and/or full exhaust are the only power increase upgrades you can do before go for a K04 turbo upgrade

handling wise a front/rear swaybars and strut braces are cheapish and noticeable difference

or you can go suspension coilovers or shock/spring package.

Yeah I've just taking her for a quick fang around the block and noticed that the suspension may need some work perhaps. Upon quick acceleration, it really lifts up and squats down at the back quite dramatically. Really plants you in your seat! lol

I think realistically with a limited budget, I'd probably investigate a rear sway bar at this stage.

But geez I haven't even fully appreciated the flash chipping yet so I could be jumping the gun so to speak.

GO MOZZY!! Welcome aboard Air POLO. Saw your car (red GTi) at Quattro on my lunchtime walk. Glad you enjoy it.
Re: suspension - I got H&R springs and Bilstien shocks and it really holds the back end more firmly, I struggle in the dry to get front end wheel spin now with the chip.

Hey chipped yep that would have been her! Are you Duncan? Reason I ask is that Brian asked me as I think he jumped on here to guage all the talk that was going on! Pretty funny I thought. Top guy to deal with.
Yeah I'm about to go out and fully 'test' the new chip. A few peeps on here reckon the new settings sorta take some time in 'settling in' so I'm gonna take it for a bit of a burn I think. But thoughts at the moment is that Its blowing my mind in the difference it makes. Like trading in your old car for a new better one! Actually when I came home last night after a brisk 'test' I found that I was grinding my teeth a bit due to the new found ferocity and that was just around the streets. Also I've notice it just sounds so much more ballsy and idles stronger as well so all up its a phenominal gain from relatively little.
In regards to traction I was actualy supprised that I wasn't spinning the wheels as much as I thought but I tend to be a bit anal when it comes to the clutch as I'm not too keen to just drop it. When I was younger I used to do that in my previous cars but quickly found blown clutches are expensive! lol go figure So in the first second or so of clutch engagement I'm a bit whoosy before flooring it. Seems to control front wheel spin well. I mean whats a second? You're upto 100kms in a blink of an eye before you're having to think about slowing down again anyways! lol Did your car come with the Dunlop Sportmaxx SP tyres? Mine are still going strong and they seem to be very high quality and seem to suit our generally warm temps here in the west, As you know it doesn't really rain all that much here so these tyres suit the conditions well.

he,he yeah I'm Duncan. I had to ensure Brian reserved the last APR Downpipe for me..he did!!
Did you have APR V1 or V2 installed. I think you also had the engine mount put in to?
The engine mount I found smoothed out the power delivery, I used to get a bit of spin on acceleration, plus my tryes were worn.
Rubber I have now are the Yokohama A.drives R1's....very nice..VERY grippy.
Were you making it to the meet on Sunday?

                    • LOL was that was it was about? I see, ya didn't want me swipin' ya DP ey? haha Nah mate I wouldn't do that to a fellow GTi enthusist!

Not sure what version I got to be honest. He didn't say. How did Brian explain the APR programs to you? Basically the way it was shown to me was that "on" basically meant 98RON program and "off" is 95RON. Thats how it was explained to me. Having said that I don't think I would turn it off anytime soon! lol
Took it for a real good thrashing this afternoon. I didn't want the ECU to hold back on me hey! Tell you what I am really impressed with the stock dunlops. Wow they really hold well although I did get it to spin a few times in 2nd gear which was pretty amusing. Also probably looked like a total manic flooring it off the lights. Actually I feel slightly embarrassed when I am about 250 down the road whilst the rest of the traffic behind me is barely off the line. lol
Personally I think if you dont drive recklessly, why shouldn't you enjoy the power of your car? That's why I'm always scratching my head seeing the amount of high performance vehicles on Perth roads just puttin around below the speed limit! Why buy a porche or ferrari for instance, and not have fun with it? Same goes with the polo I reckon.
Anyway took it around today to get some suspension quotes. Should have them Monday. Will be interesting and most likely frightening too! lol

                      • Damn you perth boys are making me jealous. I told myself i would hold off for at least a year before getting it chipped (had it about 3 months) but after reading all this i've got the itchy trigger finger
Anyway i will wait till my turbo oil feed is fixed before doing anything. Has done 3000km and got an oil leak. Dealer said it was an oil feed into the turbo and have ordered in parts ex overseas. It's been over 3 weeks and the parts still aren't in. I could courier myown boat to europe in that time . Typical warranty job, no money for them so no rush!!
Sorry just had to have a rant!

                        • Hey Marko yeah I suppose you gotta decide whether you want to go down the path of the very gray issue of warranty after chippig. My car has only done 9400Kms in almost 2 years so I've only got a year of official warranty left. Its been absolutely trouble free motoring to this point(touch wood) and since I have just got it serviced its due for its next one just before the warranty expires so I am taking a gamble that nothing will happen in that time. Lets hope anyway.
But having said and after having just chipped my car, if I had driven one at the beginning, I would have been very tempted to have it chipped the day I took delivery of it! The difference is that dramatic. I guess the only thing you have to decide is whether you want to tempt fate with the warranty issue. For me though I think it was wise to put a few Kms on the clock before getting it done.

                          • ive got 2 years of warrenty left...done 14000kms in 8 months...investigation with the dealership states that chipping my car won't cover engines claims...thinking the engine is pretty tried & tested/bulletproof....chipping that mofo this week - bring it on!

                            • I waited one month and had 1000kms up on it and then got the APR flash yesterday ..... warranty issues I'll deal with if it occurs, but I'm pretty confident in both the 1.8T engine and APR that "issues" will not arise in the next 2yrs 11 months !
