Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • turbo to manifold bolt torque specs

    Hi,

Nearly ready to get my old modded K03s and ported OEM manifold back into the car. Where im confused is that a german torque spec list per bolt size that we have at work says 10mm bolts in that pitch should be 43Nm fo 88's, 63Nmfo 10.9's and 74Nm for 12.9 high tensile which is what the VW bolt are. So why (admittedly on vortex) am I seeing figures of 26lb/ft (35Nm) being kicked around? Anyone know the official spec?
Also exhaust mani to head nuts- I've found 25Nm. sound right?

mani to head nuts = 25Nm
            mani to turbo bolts X 3 = 40Nm
            turbo to downpipe = 40Nm

sorted thanks Gav. Still 40Nm for a 10mm bolt is pretty pissy and doesn't sound like enough. Maybe the bolts which are 12.9 stretch somehow. Might just run 12.9 cap heads from work instead and get a lot more threads engaged (the OE's don't even go 2/3rds of the way into the available turbo threads). I'll be using big diameter Nordlocks too.
