Only the Polo GTI has the MFD+

The pairing menu in the middle of the tacho won't be there on a normal polo, but I do believe VW PHONE will be discoverable on the phone for about 10 seconds after turning on the car.

But yes it is a little risky running the BT without a MFD+, Touch adapter or RCD/RNS 510.

Check your VCDS settings.
I got mine done by another forum member here.

It doesn't matter whether or not anything is in the actual cradle because it's connected via bluetooth and not via the dock.
My dock simply works as a charger.

Worst bit is... changed phones now and can no longer use that damn cradle unless I buy another one!!

I should have spent the extra $10k to get the GTi! The VW PHONE is discoverable for a little bit, I don't get the "touch adaptor not installed" warning. I do have Bluetooth options on my RCD310 though, I might take some photos of the menu and post them but will try and get someone to help with the with VCDS settings.

I Thought I'd put pics of my Universal XL installed since it is difficult to find pics of it all installed online.

And just a note the power cable normally just hangs down on the left.
I've wrapped some tape around it so it is fat enough to hold in behind the unit so it is a little neater.

I bought the cradle on eBay, it just clips in place of the touch adapter so no hard work other than getting someone to do the coding.

Yeah the cable is removable, it's a right angle mini usb then the micro usb for the android phone. I've tried to find a neater one with an up angle micro but haven't had any luck.

The bury site says that there is a signal boost, I'm not sure how it might work though and haven't noticed anything yet.

There will be a signal boost, the bury dock is directly connected to the antenna on the roof of the car. I believe they put a loop in the dock. You probably won't notice more bars (receive), but it should really help the phone getting the signal out of the giant metal box that is a car (transmit).

Anybody in Sydney with the cable want to help me replace the touch adapter in my GTI with a phone dock? I'm happy to pay in cases of beer or similar
