Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • It has been 600 km after squirter upgrade and oil is still top of stick. Seems ok so far . I will update this topic ...

      • This sounds like good news snail, do the cars use any oil now or do the still use 500ml/1000k?

        Comment

        • 4500 kms done since squirters done.
Oil level has not moved on dipstick.
Before squirters would have put in 3 litres for that amount of kms.

          • I drive a 2012 fabia rs with a massive approx. 1.8/1000km.oil usage problem.I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is any possible link between the oil issue in my car and the following problems it has developed. It now locks itself in third gear and will not change to whilst in D. This used to happen when driving down hills daily,it has now started to happen in the cross city tunnel,Sydney. The car slows and stays noisily in third gear as though it is engine braking. No amount of acceleration or braking will shift it until it finally changes to 4 th gear of its own accord.
The second is an issue of black smoke from the exhaust. In this situation the engine shudders and slows before finally releasing a large cloud of black smoke and then recovers.
Both of these issues cause scary and unpredictable slowing of the car and are starting to remind me of the DSG/ coroner issues.

            • Off to the dealer you go while it's still in warranty. The oil use alone is enough to warrant a replacement motor. For reference, mine uses approx 250ml/1000km, which I think is too much really, but about half of what's required to "fail" the VW limits.

              • “Is 03c 103 157 a” part number for updated squirter ? I found one more number that is “03c 103 157 b” . I confused that which one is the new one.

The car in question was a manual IIRC.

The gearbox won't be related to the oil usage problem - it's simply a borked gearbox that needs repair.

Black smoke will be oil usage related - maybe the cats or mufflers are starting to plug up?

Get yourself to a dealer. Even if the car is out of warranty they should fix it.

                  • The part numbers given were correct for the bulletin, however they may have been superseded. Parts department at your local dealer will know which to source.

                    • Thank you. The car is only 1 year old and luckily it is under warranty. The oil usage issue was evident at 11weeks . Sadly the dealer sent me away at that time. Hopefully the issues will eventually be resolved.

                      • Find out your engine number mate, the later years may be already fitted with the advised repair parts.

                        • OK, so we've been through the whole oil consumption process with VW.
Consumption was absolutely horrendous for the first 10,000kms, then eased off to just terrible.

In November they changed out the oil squirters, but within a month (less than one thousand kms) the low oil light came on meaning it had used at least 1L. What next from here?

                          • Hello I have a similar problem. I have not yet even achieved an oil squirters fix. My car continues to use 1.8 l of oil /1000km. After perpetual delays over the past year I have made an application to NCAT(NSW civil and administrative tribunal). I imagine there would be a similar tribunal in WA. The application is made under Australian Consumer Law which applies nationally. Let me know if there is anything that I can help you with.

                            • Does anyone use VCDS to find out how much oil is left in the car or do you check both the dipstick and VCDS.

I usually use VCDS (yes cause I'm lazy...) and found that it shows my car's oil is ~53mm but when I check the dipstick its very very low. Obviously a sensor has shat itself.

As per my oil usage, I'm currently at 35,000 and at first, oil consumption was similar to everyone elses but around 20,000 it started to plateau. I have also had NONE of the oil consumption fixes done to my car.

                              • Its been a while and I thought I should update this thread as Ive spoken of my woes on here previously...

And... I'm happy to say that after I had my engine rebuilt with the new squirters, pistons and rings that my oil consumption is now Nil. Yes seriously. Im amazed really and didnt truly believe it after the debacle the car had become, from 600kms at its worst between oil lights to not using any at all in 5000+kms. Ive even cleaned up my tailpipes now as its actually worth the effort LOL.

Im sad to report that it wasnt all plain sailing, the dealer dented my car and scratched my bonet while they had it... for a month. The dents were removed but they argued they were there before of course even tho they were obvious lift leg marks. Comms was apauling and seemed they always needed some other part and had to request it from VWA and then wait, then break / find something else and then wait again, plus only one guy in the workshop was trained on how to do this work - I took that with a pinch of salt, but in reality most main dealer mechanics dont pull engines apart, just change oil and brake pads I guess.

So, worth it... yes. Finally I have a car that doesnt have clutch slip or use oil. Yeah.... Like it should have been from day 1!
