Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

37g7 doesn't change that, it just alters the solenoid seating positions when the car is turned off...

Forget about it, it does nothing to the drivability of the car.

        • I've had oil splatter since day one.

Had the breather hose replaced by the dealership, and they promised that would resolve the problem.
It didn't. The oil splatter is worse and the oil temperature runs on average 10c hotter.
Took it back to the dealership again and they told me, ' That head office in Germany wanted them to top up my oil and bring it back after 1000kms or if the low oil light illuminates' .
I questioned the relevance of replacing the hose and they just gave me more BS and said they don't have an answer how to fix my problem.
They admit there is a problem, but can't fix it and I'm left driving a brand new car looking like it's been racing in a coal mine

What's your oil consumption been? I've just had my first service (12,000kms) and it seems consumption is increasing. Getting my clutches replaced today / tomorrow and told them to look at the consumption and the soot (terrible soot). Sigh....

has anyone noticed after the 5000k mark that the oil consumption reduces and fuel also lasts a fair bit longer?

He said one of teh cars went through 1.1 L in 600km (not good at all). I asked him what happens afterwards and he said all he could do is put the old part back. WOW !!! so this thing will never resolve mind as well request for a new car cause clearly it is a defect. Anyone here actually had a breather hose replacement and it actually worked?
My car was the one that chewed through the oil within 600kms. But funny enough, after a top up. I've done 600kms, checked the dipstick and it hasn't moved from the top. So I'm guessing it is working now.

I most certainly noticed it after the 15K service as I'm now on 23K and the oil level still hasn't dropped at all.

As per the owner's manual, oil consumption may be higher than normal during the first 5000 km.

As a general rule, oil and fuel consumption will stabilise as the engine breaks in, but the point at which this occurs will obviously vary from engine to engine.

                    • Had my clutches replaced today and when I dropped the car off I mentioned the oil consumption and exhaust soot. When I picked it up they had ordered the breather hose and booked me in to get it fixed.....no questions asked. Time will tell if the consumption dies down but I must say I have a crush on Burwin VW, they're just fantastic. It's starting to restore my faith in VW.

Oil light continues to come up daily when driving. Over a week ago I topped up the oil, possibly putting a bit too much in but should have driven it in already! It has to be nearly two weeks ago I put in oil but still the light alerts me. I check the dipstick and it has oil on it and not as it use to, where there was only oil on the ball tip/end.

Today I was just about to stop at a set of lights when I thought to turn left, change lanes where the green arrow was in anther lane and floor it/and turn at the same time. Point of my story, as I accelerated into the corner te MFD turned RED, the whole screen RED and said ALERT Oil something high. Could it have been High Oil Pressure? Since then I've noticed the Oil Temp to reach 95degrees. Normally it's 85-87 degrees when driving but now when driving its up there at 95... Anyone else experience this Red MFD and temps?

                        • Usually my oil temp arrive and stay at 96/98C when driving in country roads.
In the highways arrive also at 113/115C over 150Km/h, and 101/103C below 130Km/h.

This is almost not depending on the outside temps, the only difference is the time to get the operating temp.

85-87C seems to be a little low...
Do you use the car only in city-drive?

                          • Driving around Brisbane my oil temp seems to get to 100c and stays there for the rest of the trip.

                            • If there is plenty of oil then i'd be checking that out.
Could be a faulty oil pump if you're getting the oil light come on daily.

The oil temps seem about right, mine sits around 90-100 and can get upto 110 with some spirited driving.

City driving/suburbs and occasional freeway at 100-110kph but still stays between 80-90degrees temp.

Never seen it at 100+ degrees!

I sportily drive it too and never gone higher then 90!

Will head to dealer and tell them this and possible oil pump issue?
