Hey all, speaking of Passat cop cars, ACT police have announced they're switching to 206TSI's too!
Back in black as ACT police switch to turbocharged German wagons
Also saw this article recently mentioning "a rumoured Passat R performance flagship powered by a new turbocharged V6." That would be awesome, does anyone know any more goss?

Howdy all, a VW newbie here. Just ordered a MY19 Passat 206TSI wagon in white ... no sunroof but with towbar which just shows where my current priorities are at
Am looking fwd to getting back into a 'car' after 6 years with a SUV (do recommend the Q5 tho).
VW have just announced drive-away deals on most of there range. But a couple dealers have told me that current stock of (MY19) 206TSI's are nearly exhausted (only 7 left when I ordered, white and most with 'roof). Apparently Police orders have taken a lot of stock with no more expected until MY20 later in the year.VW Passat MY19 206TSI Wagon

Hey all, also a newbie to the site.
Last week I upgraded to a MY19 Passat 206TSI wagon after my mk6 GTI was stolen, had that for about 7 years - fantastic car.
Upon picking up the car the dealer unfortunatley advised that they found an intermittent fault with the instrument cluster which could not be fixed with a re-programming, a new part had to be ordered from Germany (approx 10days). My wife and I were not complacent with this being a brand new car etc so we reqested a different one.
While waiting for the new Passat I loaned a Tiguan 162TSI which grew on me after a few days - the space and comfort mainly, engine could do with a bit more oomph (a 206TSI if you will).
I've picked up my new passat and been driving it for over a week now and very happy with it overall.
Likes (apart from the obvious)
1. TSI badge removed from rear boot, not sure about MY18 as I test drove an MY17.
2. Blind spot detection lights located on the inside of the side mirror casing making indication very clear
Minor inconveniences
1. Phone compartment in front console is a little too small for note5 samsung phone
2. Around 35km/h and above, while in sports mode you can hear a very sublte resonating/vibrating noise, I have not yet tracked it down but only noticable in dead quite atmospheres.
3. Rear seat a bit small for 3 baby or booster seats (3rd kid on the way).
Considering adding APR Stage 1 or similar in the near future - will be keen to know if anyone has added it on a current 206 Passat.
Cheers.

If the rattle sounds like it's coming from the engine/exhaust then it might be wastegate rattle. VW are a little hit and miss and have never opted to fix it, given it only happens in a few cases they opt to repair it with a clip if it's bad.
As for the tune, you will void your drive train warranty, so keep that in mind. I'd recommend Spectune (what I have) or eTuners (what other people have recommended). The only APR tuned Passat 206's that I've heard of have blown the turbo (might just be a luck thing, but it could also be related to the tune), I've had APR in the past and have been super impressed (on a Tiguan) but it might be a case of them treating the Passat 206 like a Golf R, while the running gear is similar, the ECU parameters and methods for tuning are quite different, which means other things might be a little different.MY17 206 R-Line Passat Sedan, Pure White, Sunroof | Spectune STG1 | VWR 600 Intake, TMD, Inlet Elbow | Res Delete

Any im a long time lurker, what do you think the current market for a Passat sits? Understand sedan and wagon is about different. What thing to know for a 206TSI. Would Redbook value is realistic for 2016 model?

Could you share more info on the Spectune you had done on your car or point me in the right direction? Was your tune on a recent Passat?

Hi all
love the forum and the many learned contributors. After a couple of Audi's, thought I'd post some impressions of my new MY19 Passat 206Tsi Wagon given I have had it for a few months now. For this I have plagiarised a format adopted in a similar Arteon thread.
Would you do it again?
Probably but would now wait for the MY20 update coming in November.
Do you look at another car with regret?
I will always lust after new Audi's ... but just did not want to fork out the extra $ this time around.
Do you look at another car with relief?
I shopped the 206Tsi against Mazda 6 Atenza Wagon with Turbo engine. The Mazda is a good product but just isn't a sporting drive.
Loves?
The technology. Particularly the TFT dash display, Discover Pro HMI, ACC adjustable suspension and the various safety systems.
The drive. For what it is, it handles well but can also be comfortable. The engine is smooth, economical and likes to rev. And the 6 spd DCT steps off well and works better in traffic than expected.
The quality. Almost Audi quality of materials and design but without the cost. Body feels strong with a solid 'thunk' to doors.
The space. Plenty of room from front to back.
It's not a SUV. Cause there are just too many on the road.
Hates? (... more annoyances actually).
Audio system. Can get standard setup sounding ok but the Dynaudio upgrade should have been available as an option.
The seats. They look great with lots of adjustment, but the numb bum sets in after a couple hours.
The quality. Not quite Audi with a few vibes, buzzes and fizzes already from the interior and drive-line.
The drive. It is eager but not quite as quick as expected given it has Golf R derived drive-line. Sport in DCT is useless and now wish it had the coming 7 spd.
The wheels. Verona design is too conservative and a total bugger to clean.
Auto engine stop. Too eager and kills the engine before car has stopped. I switch it off and shift to N for extended red light stops.
Overall I'm enjoying it and think the Passat is somewhat underrated in it's class.VW Passat MY19 206TSI Wagon

Thanks for the write up.
Could suggest that some of your bugbears could be fairly easily addressed:
Performance could be easily improved with an ecu tune.
Likewise transmission performance.
Stop start can be easily disabled using vcds or obd11.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

Welcome.
Long time watcher, not too many posts.
My dad has Passat (sedan) 206 TSI and after about a year took it to an APR Stage 1 tune. He also has a pedal box attached as well.
The car is a rocket and goes well, and the pedal box can give it that responsiveness of the line with it turned up onto a more aggressive mode. I asked him if he was going to take it to a Stage 2 and he said that our local APR tuner (have known for quite some years now) said not to go to Stage 2 for his Passat. I had the feeling for reliability / turbo issues.
I have had a MKVI GTI and Jetta and have taken both to APR Stage 2 with no problems (except coil packs on the Jetta). I don't have the spare cash at the moment, also only 6 months into a 5 year warranty on my R wagon to go there so am just holding off. I also have a bike which is my primary transport so I don't see the point in modding the wagon as I only usually drive it once, maybe twice a week.
Thanks,

Hey guys, the misses and I have been looking at getting a second hand low km Passat/Skoda 206tsi wagon over the last few months. This Passat popped up for sale a couple days back, had a look at it last night and it's spotless inside and out, it drove great, no rattles or anything, I couldn't pick fault with it.
Just wanted to know if there's anything specific I should be checking out before biting the bullet? I'm going back tonight to look at it again and with intentions to leave a deposit. I've read the sunroofs can rattle and be noisy, but is there anything else?Last edited by green_comet; 15-01-2020, 08:03 PM.MY18 Passat 206tsi R-Line | Harvard Blue | Wagon
